Obituary for Patricia L. Epema

Mrs. Patricia L. Epema, age 58 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017.

Pat was born July 25, 1959 in Hanford, Ca., a daughter of Albert and Janette (Stryd) Duyst. Pat grew up in Hanford and graduated from Hanford High School in 1977.

She attended Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa and that is where she met her husband, David L. Epema. They were married on May 26, 1979 in Hanford, California and were able to cherish over 38 years of marriage.

Pat owned and operated Tender Moments Daycare Center for over 30 years and had the gift of patience and enthusiasm to teach children and loved every child that attended.

A resident of the Jefferson City area since 1987, Pat had a deep faith and was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Family was always the center of Pat’s life and she loved her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed going on family walks after Sunday dinner, trips to warmer climates, especially the gulf coast of Florida and she had a talent for photography.

Survivors include: her husband, David Epema; six children, David Epema Jr. (wife Katie) of Holts Summit, Mo., John Epema (wife Stacy) of Pleasant Hill, Mo., Dustin Epema (wife Lisa) of Springfield, Mo., Nicole Collins (husband Jonathan) of Columbia, Mo., James Epema of Jefferson City, Mo. and Cody Epema of Jefferson City, Mo.; her parents, Albert and Janette Duyst of Hanford, Ca.; four siblings, Brenda McCutcheon (husband Barry) of Hanford, Ca., Charlotte Stark (husband Jonathan) of Pittsburgh, Pa., Jeanne Bommelje (husband Steve) of Visalia, Ca., and Greg Duyst (wife Amy) of Arroyo Grande, Ca.; and twelve grandchildren, Carter Epema, Levi Epema, Isaac Epema, Lucie Epema, Ethan Epema, Mollie Epema, Kaley Winkler, Brennen Kildea, Isabelle Epema, Embry Collins, Gabe Collins, and Beckett Collins.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Albert “Chip” Duyst.

Visitation will be at First Presbyterian Church from 9:00 until 11:00 am Friday, December 29, 2017.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am Friday, December 29, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. David Henry officiating. Graveside services will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Dr. Tamara Hopkins Patient Assistance Fund.
