Obituary for Agnes "Bee" Sullivan

Mrs. Agnes Louise “Bee” Sullivan, age 97, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away peacefully Sunday, December 25, 2022, at Capital Region Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Bee was born on October 15, 1925 in Jefferson City, Mo., a daughter of Oscar and Eugenia (Sayles) Bassmann.

She met John L Sullivan, when she was only 14 years old, and they were married on December 30, 1944 after he returned from England from World War II. They were devoted to each other for 71 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on May 10, 2016.

A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Bee was a 1943 graduate of Jefferson City High School.

A homemaker the majority of her life, Bee’s life revolved around supporting her family. She helped by cooking meals, sewing children’s clothes, babysitting grandchildren and even painting and wallpapering their homes. Bee was there for anything they needed. She took great pride in her home and often redecorated her space, ensuring it was perfect for welcoming family and friends on all occasions.

She was a lifelong member of Central United Church of Christ (now known as Central Church). Her family has strong roots in the church because her great-grandfather was a founding member. Bee was active in the church and proud to be a founding member of the Bazaar Circle. She also volunteered her time with the Meals on Wheels Program.

Bee enjoyed sewing and was a talented quilter too. She was a creative person and liked to spend time painting and crafting. She also loved to travel, especially to the 93rd Bomb Group reunions with her husband and to visit her daughter and son-in-law wherever they were currently stationed on military duty.

Bee will be remembered for her humble personality and constant encouragement. She often said, “Can’t, never did nothing”, always encouraging her family to do whatever they dreamed.

Survivors include: one daughter, Peggy E. Sellers (husband Jim) of Jefferson City, Mo.; one daughter-in-law, Cynthia Sullivan of Jefferson City, Mo.; five grandchildren, Patrick Sullivan of Overland Park, Ks., Brendan Sullivan of Jefferson City, Mo., John Sellers (wife Bethany) of Jefferson City, Mo., Rebecca Sullivan of Jefferson City, Mo. and Michael Sellers (wife Suzanne) of New York, Ny.; six great-grandchildren, John Michael and William Sullivan of Overland Park, Ks., Stella Winter (Clay) of Jefferson City, Mo., Emma and Ethan Sellers of Jefferson City, Mo. and Charlotte Sellers of New York, Ny.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
