Alberta M. (Burre) Bunting Dollens, age 82, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Saturday, July 4, 2020 at Pin Oaks Living Center in Mexico, Mo.
Alberta was born on March 31, 1938 in Tebbetts, Mo., the daughter of Albert Arnold and Erna Mae (Bretthorst) Burre. She was married on April 30, 1990 in Mexico, Mo. to Robert Dollens, who preceded her in death on September 8, 2018.
A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Alberta graduated from South Callaway High School.
She was an underwriter with Frontier Insurance for over 35 years retiring as their Vice President. Alberta possessed a strong work ethic that helped her stay positive in all situations. She was smart, full of grace and had a tremendous amount of perseverance that was greatly admired by her peers. Alberta enjoyed her career because she cherished being around people. She was always telling stories to make everyone feel comfortable.
Alberta was a member of Tebbetts Methodist Church and enjoyed playing the piano at services when she was younger.
She was a talented seamstress and even made clothing for family throughout the years. She grew up on a farm in Tebbetts so she enjoyed her beautiful garden and canning food.
Her life revolved around family and being there for them. When her daughters were younger, she supported them by attending all school activities or sporting events. As they got older, she was there as a mentor and confidant, always with a positive smile and reassurance things would be alright. She had incredible handwriting and was so thoughtful to celebrate all family members special occasions with a nice card and hug. She will be remembered for always keeping her head high and the generous spirit she shared with others.
Survivors include: three daughters, Darla Pickering (husband John) of Fulton, Mo., Della Stark of Jefferson City, Mo and Billie Garriott of Troy, Alabama; two brothers, Perry Burre (wife Donna) of Mokane, Mo. and George Burre (wife Glenna) of Tebbetts, Mo.; one sister, Betty Meyer (husband Charles) of Mokane, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Guy Pickering, Dana Pickering, John Pickering, Rachel Stark, Adam Stark (wife Cara), Kelli Holland and Kristi Wendring; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; two-step sons, Greg Dollens and Gary Dollens; and three step-grandchildren, Meagan, Trey and Tanner.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bob.
Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2020.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the Tebbetts Methodist Church with the Reverend Kay Hord officiating. Graveside services and interment with be held at New Hope Cemetery near Thompson, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2609 E. Broadway #119, Columbia, Mo. 65201.
