Obituary for Alfred D. Gibler

Alfred Dean Gibler, age 83, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Capital Region Medical Center.

Alfred was born on August 9, 1937 in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Joseph Howard and Mable Mildred (Surface) Gibler. He was married on November 9, 1957 to Barbara Rebecca “Becky” Coleman and to this marriage his two sons were born.

A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Alfred was a 1956 graduate of Jefferson City High School. After high school he served in the Missouri Army National Guard for several years until he was honorably discharged.

Alfred worked for Tyler’s Lock & Key Service as a locksmith starting in 1952 when he was only a teenager until he slowed down in 1999. Even after retiring he was always willing to come in and help if needed. Alfred graduated from the Missouri State Highway Patrol Academy to become a member of the Missouri State Capitol Police from November 28, 1960 until August 9, 1992 working as a night security officer. Alfred was known in both jobs for his very strong work ethic and not tolerating laziness. Alfred also worked at Tweedie Shoe Company and International Shoe Company in the 1950’s before joining the Missouri Capitol Police. During his retirement, he helped as a driver with Doug’s Boulevard Motors.

He possessed a strong faith and was proud to be one of the longest standing members at First Assembly of God. He cherished the relationships he made through the church and could be found at many church events.

Alfred enjoyed traveling and spending time on his motorcycle. He was a longtime member of the Chapter “G” Honda Goldwing Road Riders Association. Alfred loved spending time outdoors, with camping and hiking as some of his favorites. Attending bluegrass and gospel concerts was another favorite pastime.

Survivors include: two daughters-in-law, Nancy Gibler and Donna Bisges, both of Jefferson City, Mo.; his granddaughter, Alexandra Hutson (husband Anthony) of Jefferson City, Mo.; and two sisters, Virginia Row of Boise, Idaho and Darlene Weaver (husband Charlie) of Jefferson City, Mo.
