Obituary for Allan C. Heseman
Allan C. Heseman, age 63, of Jefferson City, passed away Friday, July 17, 2020 after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Allan was born on June 28, 1957 in Monett, a son of Erwin Richard and Lela Ann (Doss) Heseman. He was married on September 12, 1981, in Freistatt, to Sherry L. Haggett, who survives.
Allan grew up in Freistatt and graduated from Monett High School. He later attended the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Ok. and Missouri Southern State University where he studied criminal justice.
Allan was appointed to the Missouri State Highway Patrol on April 1, 1980. His first assignment was to Wayne, Iron and Madison counties in Troop E, where he served as a Trooper for 14 years, as both a road officer and a pilot. In 1994, he was assigned to Research & Development and transferred to General Headquarters in Jefferson City. In his tenure at GHQ, he was instrumental in helping the Patrol transition from paper to electronic forms and was proud to play a part in modernizing the Highway Patrol in its endeavor to embrace new technology in order to better serve the people of Missouri. He retired as a Sergeant in September 2014.
He was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church. One of his passions was playing the trumpet and he enjoyed playing for the congregation at Faith Lutheran and also with the Jefferson City Orchestra.
Allan was known as a perfectionist and one of his popular sayings was “perfect is good enough.” He put that level of care into all his activities throughout his life. He was constantly reading, researching, and learning about his passions. While in Piedmont, he spent a lot of time flying a Piper Cub and Cessna Skylane. He loved aviation; he could usually identify an airplane’s model as it flew overhead. He learned woodworking from his father and uncles, and he could build anything from clocks to decks to houses and even a grandmother’s clock, an anniversary gift for his parents. Allan enjoyed being outdoors at their lake house at the Lake of the Ozarks and crappie fishing in his free time.
He was extremely proud of his family, especially his children and grandchildren. Some of his favorite pastimes were smoking meat, watching sports and just being around them.
Survivors include: his loving wife of 38 years, Sherry Heseman; two children, Hailey Nicole Grayson (husband Kyle) of Steelville, and Travis Allan Heseman (wife Jessica) of McGirk; three grandchildren, Chace Allen Grayson, Callie Ann Grayson and Etta Lane Heseman; one brother, Dwight Heseman (wife Melanie) of Holts Summit; aunt, Delphine Hesemann of Verona; father-in-law, Clyde Haggett (wife Arlene) of Piedmont.; two brothers-in-law, Rick Haggett (wife Cheryl) and Rodney Haggett (wife Janeen); and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law, Helen Haggett Miller.
A private graveside service and interment was held at Riverview Cemetery with his brothers-in-law, Rick Haggett and Rodney Haggett, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the MASTERS Program through the Missouri Highway Patrol, Hospice Compassus or Jefferson City Manor. Please mail all contributions to P.O. Box 95, Jefferson City, Mo. 65102 to be given to his family.
