Obituary for Arlene Hendrickson

Mrs. Arlene Naomi Hendrickson, 86, of California, Mo. passed away, Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Jefferson City Manor.

She was born on December 12, 1933 in Centertown, Mo., to Carl and Elaine (Hackney) Osick. She was married on October 5, 1952 at Centertown Baptist Church to Howard “Jerry” Hendrickson.

Arlene graduated from California High School and worked with Missouri Division of Employment Security for over 37 years, retiring as Supervisor in 1992.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and a former member of Centertown Baptist Church. Arlene had a unique talent for working with young children and she used this talent to work for several years running the nursery at the church. She was an excellent seamstress and could create beautiful clothing and fix any pair of jeans, zippers in coats, hems and do alterations. She also enjoyed her quilting circle and made hand-stitched quilts for all in her family.

Arlene was the foundation that her family built their lives around. She instilled in them the importance of values and unconditional love. There was always meals ready at the house for family gatherings or visits from the grandkids.

Survivors include: her husband of 67 years, Jerry Hendrickson; sons, Darrell Hendrickson (Rochelle) of California, Mo., and Keith Hendrickson (Jo Ann) of Jamestown, Mo.; grandchildren, Carla Gilzow (Josh) of Ashland, Mo. and Matt Hendrickson of Jamestown, Mo.; step-grandson, Brandon Paneitz of Jefferson City, Mo.; granddaughter-in-law, Gwendolyn Hendrickson of Warrensburg, Mo.; great-granddaughter, Audrey Gilzow of Ashland, Mo.; and sister-in-law, Elyda “Kitty” Clarke of Blue Eye, Mo.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her twin sister, Carlene Goldammer; and grandson, Craig Hendrickson.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 11:00 until 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 21, 2020.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 21, 2020 in the Freeman Chapel with Reverend Dr. Doyle Sager, Reverend John Gorham and Reverend Rod Maples officiating. Graveside services will follow at Centertown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice Compassus or charity of choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
