Obituary for Barbara Clay Stivers

Barbara Clay Milligan Stivers, age 81, of Jefferson City, Mo. passed away Thursday May 14, 2020 at her home.

She was born on October 29, 1938 in Fayette County, Kentucky, the daughter of Nathan and Connie (Milburn) Milligan. She was married on July 19, 1958 to Leon Stivers who proceeded her in death on October 22, 2018.

Barbara was a graduate of St. Charles Senior High School in 1956. She worked for many years at Lindenwood University as a cook and Oak Grove Mausoleum as a custodian during her time living in the St. Louis area.

Barbara enjoyed painting, quilting, crocheting, and just about any other craft she could try and master. She loved a good card or dice game or puzzle, and spent many an hour reading in her spare time, especially romance novels. She loved to cook and bake, and was famous for her biscuits and gravy, taco salad, beans and cornbread, but most of all her cowboy cake. Barbara was determined and one might say, a bit stubborn. She enjoyed life the way she knew it and wasn’t too keen on changing things but she was woman with a big heart and she cherished her family.

Survivors include: her children, Valerie Smith of Jefferson City, Mo., Natalie Mallozzi of Eldon, Mo., Libbie Farrell and husband Rick of Rhineland, Mo., and Alanda Welch-O’Dowd and husband Clarence of Linn, Mo.; eleven grandchildren, Amos Smith, III, Andrea Williams, Vanessa McCaleb, Jenetta Schmitt, August Smith, Kasey Benton, Zachary Mandry, Kristine Farrell, Erica Cahill, Samantha Wyant, and Jesse Welch; twenty great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her siblings, Boris Milligan, Nathan Wendell “Wendy” Milligan, William “Bill” Milligan, and Philip Milligan; and her son-in-law, Vinne Mallozzi.
