Obituary for Bea Putnam

Anna Beatrice “Bea” Putnam, 90, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital.

She was born on October 24, 1929 in Cole County, a daughter of Adolph and Theresa Ehrhardt Sommerer. She was married on August 24, 1947 in California, Mo. to Fred Putnam who preceded her in death on September 25, 2001.

A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, she attended high school in Eugene, Mo.

Bea spent her years raising her two children and worked as a seamstress in town. After her kids were grown, she went on to do alterations at Penney’s and Franks Clothing Store. Bea then spent 20 years working with Homemaker Home Health Care. She loved the elderly and enjoyed taking care of them.

Bea joined Faith Lutheran Church when it opened and was the last living of the founding members. Her church was one of the most important things in her life. When Bea wasn’t sewing and doing alterations, she could be found quilting and cutting blocks of fabric. She assisted in making many beautiful quilts. She loved gathering and singing with her large family.

Survivors include: her children, Linda Lock of Liberty, Mo. and William Putnam of Camdenton, Mo.; her siblings, Margie Beck, Vernon Sommerer, Cleo Howard, Lolly Sommerer, Naomi Vetter and Lloyd Sommerer; her grandchildren, Dr. Merideth Nitzel (Scott), Heather Wheeler, Matthew Putnam, Heidi Sullivan and Aaron Lock; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and her best friend, Jane Putnam.

Bea was preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Theresa Sommerer; her husband, Fred Putnam; her brothers, Felix Sommerer, Mahlon Sommerer and Ehrhardt “Bud” Sommerer; and her sisters, Lillian Kueggle and Elizabeth Williams.

Visitation will be held at Faith Lutheran Church from 12:00 until 1:00 pm Saturday, July 18, 2020.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm Saturday, at Faith Lutheran Church with the Reverend Tony Alter officiating. Graveside services will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Calvary Lutheran High School, Jefferson City, Mo.
