Obituary for Betty Carmichael (Newman)

Betty Lou Newman Carmichael, age 89, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021, at the Valley Park Retirement Center in Holts Summit.

She was born on October 2, 1931, in East St. Louis, Illinois the daughter of John Thomas Newman and Corena Pritchett Newman. She was the youngest of five children.

She married John W. Carmichael (Bill) on September 10, 1949 in East St. Louis, Illinois. During the early part of married life, she lived in East St. Louis, Carbondale, and Mount Vernon, all in Illinois and Paducah Kentucky before moving to Jefferson City in 1961.

She spent the early part of married life as a wife and mother taking care of the home and family until all her children were in school. Some of Betty's employment in Jefferson City were with the Ramada Inn, Modem Business Systems and in 1971, running the business office for Carmichael Datsun/Fiat, which eventually became Carmichael, Inc. After Carmichael Inc. closed in 1995, she went to work for Central Technologies from which she retired.

Survivors include sons J.W. (Bill) Carmichael Jr. (Linda), Jefferson City; G.R. (Bob) Carmichael (Pam), Topeka Kansas and daughter Beverly Heidbreder (Lee), Holts Summit; six grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, stepfather, two older brother and two older sisters.

A family memorial service will be held later.

The family would like to thank the staff and management of the Valley Park Retirement Center for their care of mother during her last 8 years of life.
