Mrs. Betty Sharon Humphreys, age 78, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away peacefully Sunday, April 3, 2022 at Oak Tree Villa.
Betty was born October 9, 1943 in Lubbock, Tx., a daughter of the late Charles Willard and Betty Marie (McNabb) Estes. Betty grew up in Lubbock, Tx. and graduated from Lubbock High School in 1962.
She met the love of her life, Don Humphreys, while he served in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, Texas. They were married on November 13, 1965 in Lubbock, Tx. and moved to Jefferson City, Mo. when Don was honorably discharged from his service to our country.
While living in central Missouri, Betty started working for Farm Bureau, where she was employed for five years. Betty then began her 30-year career in banking that she truly cherished because of the relationships she fostered with clients and co-workers through the years. She was employed with United Missouri Bank (UMB) for over 25 years and left as Senior Vice President and then later retired from Premier Bank. During her retirement, Betty worked part time to help Premier Bank in their bookkeeping department. Over her lengthy career, Betty was a member of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA).
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed attending with her children. Betty was part of the Crime Stoppers program through Jefferson City Police Department and helped as their secretary. She served as past president of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5 Auxiliary.
Betty was an avid reader and could often be found engrossed in a good mystery novel. She could be described as a “crossword junkie,” and never went a day without working on a good crossword puzzle. She like searching for antiques and was especially proud of her collection of Frankoma pottery.
Betty came from a large, loving family so she always made family the center of her life. She looked forward to annual family reunions in Texas and Illinois where she could see her siblings and extended family. Most of all, she cherished the time spent and memories made with her children and grandchildren. Some of her favorite times were playing games with them: Skip Bo, Uno, and Scrabble were her favorites.
Betty will be remembered for her caring heart, outspoken nature, strong work ethic, and for always being just a phone call away. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include: her loving husband of 56 years, Don Humphreys of Jefferson City, Mo.; two children, Shannon Lairmore (husband, Larry) of Lohman, Mo. and Michael Humphreys (Carmen Gabaldón) of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren, Amanda Lairmore and Sarah Lairmore, both of Lohman, Mo.; one great-grandson, Dustin Lairmore; four siblings, Charles Estes (wife, Sharon) of Lubbock, Tx., Susan Jefferson (husband, Walter) of Independence, Mo., Loyce Nesteby (husband, Gregory) of Lubbock, Tx., and Eddie Estes of Elkhart, Indiana; and one sister-in-law, Nellie Estes of Seagraves, TX.
