Obituary for Bill Binkley Jr.

Billy Gene Binkley, Jr., age 61 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Thursday, April 23, 2020 at his home.

Bill was born on January 11, 1959, the son of Billy Gene Binkley, Sr. and Katherine (Ekstam) Binkley. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Bill graduated from Eugene Cole County R-V High School in 1977.

He met Lisa Ann Propst in high school, and they were married on September 9, 1978 in Honey Creek at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Bill was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver. His career included working for Eugene MFA Exchange, Ray Bax Construction and Ken Otke Construction before starting his own business, Bill Binkley & Sons Excavating. Bill was proud that his sons later joined him in his business.

He was a baptized member of First Christian Church in Eugene, Mo.

Bill loved operating equipment and being outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, boating on the Osage River and considered his deer stand to be one of his most peaceful places. He also enjoyed watching western movies, reading about history, piddling in his shop or splitting wood in the back yard.

He will be remembered as a loving son, husband, dad and Papa. He looked forward to traveling in their camper with Lisa especially to Truman Lake, Yellowstone, Colorado and the Grand Canyon. He cherished time with his family and grandchildren, especially if they were with him outdoors. Bill enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s sporting events and was truly the family’s number one fan.

Survivors include: loving wife of 41 years, Lisa Ann Binkley; two sons, Shawn Binkley (Lesli) of Henley, Mo. and Brandon Binkley (LeAnna) of Henley, Mo; his mother, Katherine Binkley of Eugene, Mo.; six grandchildren, Nolan Binkley, Brayden Belt, IsaBella Binkley, Grady Binkley, Tanna Binkley and Boone Binkley; three sisters, Carmen Lepper (John) of Brazito, Mo., Merritt Mosley (Michael) of Columbia, Mo., and Lita Hood (Alan) of Jefferson City, Mo.; one brother, Kevin Binkley of Eugene, Mo.; his mother-in-law, Doris Propst of Honey Creek, Mo.; three sisters-in-law, Brenda Rathmann (Paul) of Jefferson City, Mo., Ramona Hagerman (Brad) of Henley, Mo and Annette Oxley (Landon) of Holts Summit, Mo.; three brothers-in-law, Richard Propst, Jeffery Propst (Gayla) and Greg Propst (Sandy), all of Honey Creek, Mo.; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
