Obituary for Bill Trimm

William “Bill” Lee Trimm, 92, of Jefferson City, died on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at his home.

Bill was a lifelong Missourian, but for the first few weeks of his life which began in Wichita, Kansas on November 28, 1929. He was born the son of Raymond Lafayette and Alma Jane (Selby)Trimm.

On November 10, 1950 he married Kathleen “Kathy” (Miller) Trimm who preceded him in death on March 1, 1994.

After graduating Albany High School, he graduated from the University of Missouri in 1954 with a B.S.M.A in statistics and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He went on to serve as a Civil Engineer for the Missouri State Highway Department, and worked with the department continuously, serving in districts 2, 4, 5, and 6 in the Materials and Research Division until his retirement in 1996.

Bill personified the greatest generation. He took pride in others’ achievements over his own, valued his community, his friends, and his family, and was modest. He was a kind gentleman to everyone he encountered and was affectionate and loving to his family. Long before it was common, he supported his wife having a successful career of her own, and they valued education, sending their three daughters to college. He began life on a farm in the great depression and committed his life's work to improving his home State of Missouri. After spending his whole career as a public servant with the Missouri State Highway Department, he devoted his retirement to advocating for the needs of senior citizens through his leadership roles in the Silver Haired Legislature. He was also a member of the Association of Retired Missouri State Employees, the AARP, the Central Missouri Area Agency of Aging, the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers, and the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He served as a Deacon in the First Christian Church for many years. He lived his long life curiously, actively, and independently up until his last weeks.

Bill is survived by: two daughters, Billie Trimm Barnett of Tulsa, OK, and her husband Howard, and Linda Trimm Karcher of Houston TX, and her husband Scott; his four grandchildren, Adrienne Lee Barnett and her husband Scott Mccaulley, Allison Barnett Simpson and her husband Matthew, Kaitlin Michele Karcher, and Andrew Lee Karcher; and his two great-grandchildren, Wallace Lee Simpson and Matilda Barnett Simpson.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathy; daughter, Paula Trimm Ballard; brother, R.L. Trimm Jr.; and mother-in-law, Ruth "Susie" Miller, who Bill cared for as his own after Kathy's death.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2022.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2022 at First Christian Church with the Reverend Dr. John Bennett officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Tulsa Memorial Park in Tulsa, Oklahoma with the Reverend Alexis Engelbrecht officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church of Jefferson City, the local AARP chapter in Jefferson City, or the Silver Haired Legislature by mailing all donations to P.O. Box 95, Jefferson City, Mo. 65102.
