Obituary for Brenda Porter
Mrs. Brenda Joyce (Burd) Porter, age 69, of Holts Summit, Mo., passed away peacefully on August 10, 2020 at River City Nursing Home.
She was born on November 27, 1950 in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of James Allen Burd and Wanda Lee (Peterson) Burd. She was married on December 30, 2006 in Holts Summit, Mo., to Eddie Leon “Lee” Porter, who preceded her in death on April 21, 2020.
A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, Brenda graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1968. After high school, Brenda was offered a scholarship to Julliard, but instead chose to stay in the area and attend the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.
A woman of faith, Brenda was a member of the Christian Church. Brenda was a talented musician. She was a member of the concert band and she was also a member of the marching band as a First Chair Clarinet.
Brenda was extremely artistic. She was well known for selling her beautiful wreaths at craft shows. Brenda loved traveling. She loved traveling to the West Coast and different National Parks. Her most beloved travel adventures include Norway and Russia, and she even delivered babies while in Russia.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Joseph Kemple (wife, Kristen) of St. Louis, Mo. and Cory Gardner of St. Louis, Mo.,; one sister, Cynthia Meinhardt of Kansas City, Mo.; one brother; four grandchildren, Emily, Riley, Ike (wife, Sam), and Oscar; and four step children, Lance Smith of Kansas City, Mo., Clayton Porter of Holts Summit, Mo., Leslie Wilhelmson of Norway, Stacey Fischer of Lohman, Mo.
Brenda was preceded in death by her loving husband, Eddie Lee Porter, and her parents.
Private family funeral services will be conducted at Freeman Mortuary on Thursday, August 13, 2020 with Ed Moses officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery immediately following the service, all friends and family are welcome to attend the graveside service.
A webcast of the funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM for friends and family to view by going to the “photos and videos” tab on this page and scrolling down to the webcasting link. Friends may mail sympathy cards to the funeral home to be given to his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Organization, 9370 Olive Blvd., St. Louis, Mo. 63132.
