Obituary for Carol Thompson

Carol Gay Thompson, age 82, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away peacefully on Monday, March 7, 2022 at Villa Marie Senior Living.

She was born on October 1, 1939 in Callaway County, Mo., the daughter of Obie Milton and Cynthia Ann (Daly) Earleywine.

A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, Carol was a graduate of Jefferson City High School.

Carol began working at Capitol City Telephone, and remained there for over 10 years. She later accepted a position with the State of Missouri in the Department of Motor Vehicles, where she worked as a Microfilm Clerk for over 20 years.

She was not formally a member of any organization, but those who knew her would say Carol was the social organization.

Carol loved “the great outdoors” and made it a point to get outside every day. She was sure to take her daily 5 mile walks at Memorial Park and loved to soak up the sun. Whether that was playing on a softball league in her younger years, spending quality time with her son playing sports or even just napping on the front porch. Carol was not one to be confined and was truly a free spirit. She enjoyed her own space and was incredibly strong willed. She had a great sense of humor and a quick wit.

Carol was the best mom to her son, Matthew. Her personality was inviting and captivating to witness, leading a lot of Matthew’s friends to want to come over to hang out with his mom. As a single mother, it was important to her to play the role of both parents and she did that with enthusiasm. They had a truly special bond.

Survivors include: one son, Matthew Thompson (wife, Lindsey) of Allen, Tx.; three siblings, Larry Earleywine of Jefferson City, Mo., John Earleywine of Cameron, Mo., and Cindy Myers of St. Joseph, Mo.; and one grandson, Tucker Thompson of Allen, Tx..

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Curt Earleywine; and one sister, Shirley Galloway.

Private services for Carol’s family will be held at Riverview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to help with the placement of a memorial bench at “her” Memorial Park. The Gofundme memorial account link is https://gofund.me/526cc147.
