Obituary for Charles Weaver

Charles L. “Charlie” Weaver, age 82, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Villa Marie Senior Living Center.

He was born on June 10, 1940, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Edward and Clara (Horstdaniel) Weaver. He was married on August 26, 1989, in Jefferson City to Mildred “Darlene” Gibler, who survives.

Charlie attended Helias High School in Jefferson City and later became an over the road truck driver working for Coy’s Moving and Storage, and owned and operated Capitol City Moving and Storage. Through the years he also worked for Montgomery Ward and JC Mattress Factory. Charlie retired from Immaculate Conception School where he served as a custodian.

Charlie was a follower of Christ and a member of First Assembly of God in Jefferson City. He and his wife, Darlene, cherished their church family and took many trips and bus tours with the 50 plus group at the church.

Charlie was an avid Cardinal’s baseball fan. Dedicated to the team, he watched and listened to countless games. He took great pride in his yard and spent a lot of time landscaping. He loved being outdoors, gardening, fishing and put many miles on their camper, camping near and far. A family man, Charlie was an attentive and present father. His children will carry memories of fishing, family vacations, and camping with their dad. Charlie’s regular hangout was Pizza Kwik, where he was a well-loved patron. This is also where he met his wife, Darlene.

He had a helpful and giving heart, always willing to help friends or family move when needed but it wasn’t just those he knew to whom he extended a hand. Charlie would offer his help in whatever capacity to anyone in need. His straight forward “tell it like it is” demeanor made Charlie a trustworthy and dependable man but it was his ornery nature that truly defined his personality. He loved his children and grandchildren, often expressing pride in them to others. Charlie will be remembered as a hardworking, family-oriented man. Those who knew him best will also remember his signature treat, a banana milkshake, “the big one.”

Survivors include: his wife of 33 years, Darlene Weaver; his children, Craig Weaver (Alicia) of Taos, Mo., Kim Gilpin (Brad) of Jefferson City, Mo., and Phil Weaver of Steedman, Mo.; sister, Mary Schmitz (Joe) of Columbus, Oh.; step grandson, Dustin Salter; three grandchildren, Lindsey Gilpin, Zachary Weaver, and Haley Gilpin; two great grandchildren, Peyton and Taytum; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; stepdaughter, Tanya Humphrey; three siblings, Gladys Davis, Irene Smith, and John “Jack” Weaver; and his beloved pups, Brittney and Coco.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Freeman Mortuary.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2023 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Bob Nilges officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to First Assembly of God, the Jefferson City Building Fund or the Friends of the Jefferson City Animal Shelter.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Freeman Mortuary, 915 Madison St, Jefferson City, MO 65101.
