Mr. Charles Joseph “Jim” Witzigman, age 93 years, of Jefferson City, Mo. passed away March 12, 2020 at the VA Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
He was born on December 1, 1926 in Masury, Ohio to Martin Jacob and Gertrude Agnes (Walsh) Witzigman. In 1944 Jim married Norma Jean Chisholm in Youngstown, Ohio, she preceded him in death in November 2012.
Jim was drafted into the United States Army in 1945 and proudly served his country during World War II. He received the following decorations and citations, Army Occupation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon. Jim was honorably discharged in July of 1946 as a United States Army Sergeant.
He received his education in Pennsylvania and began working for Westinghouse following his military service. Jim moved his family from Wheatland, Penn. to Jefferson City, Mo. in 1972 where he continued to work as an industrial engineer for Westinghouse until his retirement in 1990.
Jim loved to tinker. Everyday, he would go to his shop and work on projects. Most of his projects centered around taking a broken item, tearing it apart, and rebuilding it as if it were brand new. He was passionate about learning how something worked, “inside and out”. Jim exercised his creative side through painting signs and he always enjoyed sharing stories and conversing on all topics. Witzigman is German for “funny man”, and Jim was a great joke teller: Once he started, he could go on for hours.
