Clifton Lewis “Clif” Newton, age 95, of Holts Summit, Mo., passed away peacefully Sunday, September 18, 2022 at home surrounded by his family.
Clif was born on October 11, 1926 in Cone, Tx., the son of Jesse Virgil and Zelma B. “Bill” (Miller) Newton.
A resident of the Petersburg, Tx. area for the majority of his life, Clif was a 1944 graduate of Petersburg High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Army where he served during World War II.
It was during his time in the Army that he met the love of his life, Wilma LaVern Williams, and they corresponded through letters for over a year. After proudly serving his country, they were married on July 30, 1947 in Lubbock, Tx. and were blessed with 75 years of marriage.
From a young age, Clif was talented at fixing electronics; later starting his own business, Newton Radio & T.V., with Wilma. Clif stated that one of his most enjoyable memories was when both of his sons, Lanny and Brent, worked alongside him. He owned and operated the business in Abernathy, Tx. for 40 years until his retirement on March 11, 1993. After retirement he continued to repair electronics for his friends and family in his workshop at the house.
Clif possessed a strong faith and was an active member of the Church of Christ in Abernathy, Tx. where he served as an elder for 27 years. In their later years in Abernathy they attended the Parkway Drive Church of Christ in Lubbock, Tx. He taught bible classes during those years and enjoyed the time of reflection during those discussions. He moved to central Missouri two years ago to be closer to his son and attended Fairgrounds Road Church of Christ.
Clif enjoyed being outdoors as much as possible; looking forward to time fishing, camping, and exploring nature. He enjoyed traveling with his family to the Colorado Mountains and New Mexico, taking a camping trip every year since 1953. Most of all, Clif cherished the time that he spent with his family and friends. He will be remembered for always being there when you needed him and endlessly spoiling his grandchildren.
Survivors include: his loving wife of 75 years, Wilma Newton; two sons, Lanny D. Newton (Gina) of Amarillo, Tx. and Kevin B. “Brent” Newton (Resa) of Holts Summit, Mo.; one sister, Lucille Williams of Lubbock, Tx.; six grandchildren, Tawn Mitchell (Darron), Terrill Newton (Stephanie), Terrance Newton (Tina), Zachary Newton (Jamie), Aleisha Newton Malone and Tiffany Newton; eight great-grandchildren, Crysta, Carter and Cooper Newton, Whitney, Brynn and Brett Mitchell, and Tinley and Timber Newton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
