Obituary for Darrell E.J. Imsland

Print
Mr. Darrell E.J. Imsland, age 70 years, of Eugene, Mo., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by his family.

Darrell was born October 23, 1948 in Jefferson City, Mo. the son of Beryl and Pauline Libbert Imsland. He was married on August 25, 1969 in Columbia, Mo. to Judith A. Dietzel.

Darrell proudly served his country in the United States Army and was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart for his service during the Vietnam War.

Darrell was one the first employees of Chesebrough-Ponds when it opened the doors to its new factory in Jefferson City in 1966. He started as a linesman, then worked in the Compounding making lipstick before moving on to running a printing press in their in-house Packing Dept. Darrell’s father, Beryl, who was an Engineer for the Missouri Pacific Railroad in Jefferson City, would always ask Darrell when he was going to quit there and get a real job. In 1976, Darrell finally gave in and followed in his father’s footsteps. Just as Beryl had done before him. Darrell hired on with the railroad and became an Engineer. He retired from Union Pacific with thirty plus years of service.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen; the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5; the Veterans of Foreign War, Basinger/Sone Post 1003; and the National Rifle Assn.

Darrell was a proud man who rarely asked for help, but was quick to help family and friends when they asked, no matter the task.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, taking road trips across America, and riding his motorcycle. Most importantly, he cherished his time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchild.

Survivors include: his wife of forty-nine years, Judy Imsland; four children, Brice E.J. Imsland (Bethany) of Columbia, Mo., Kerry A. Fisher (John) of Holts Summit, Mo., Amanda J. Gardner (Keith) of Holts Summit, Mo., and Darrell A. Imsland of Jefferson City, Mo.; three sisters, Jackie Thompson of Centertown, Mo., Shirley Downing (John) of Jefferson City, Mo., and Patty Williamson (Terry) of Jefferson City, Mo.; one brother, Rick Imsland (Cathy) of Rocky Mount, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Ivan Marie Imsland, Isaiah E.J. Imsland, Victoria Fisher, Elizabeth Fisher, Abigail Fisher, Andrew Frank, Makayla Gardner, Grace Gardner, and Keith Gardner; and one great grandson, Rowan Frank.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant sister, Darlene and another sister, Donna Carter.

Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2018.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Monte Shinkle officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
