Obituary for David Allen Mitchell

Mr. David Allen Mitchell, age 70 years, of Laingsburg, Michigan, passed away Friday October 18, 2019 at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

He was born on February 13, 1949, in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Jack Allen Mitchell and Donna Irene (Rose) Rowley.

David was a 1967 graduate of Laingsburg High School, then went on to attend college for a time and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam Era until he was honorably discharged.

David was a jack of all trades. He was a talented musician and was skilled in playing the drums, the guitar and bass. He even spent time traveling with Alice Cooper playing music. He held many positions working construction through the years. David even took on owning his own restaurant, Laingsburg Pizzeria, where he prided himself on making everything from scratch.

David was a creative soul, whether it was playing music, coloring, or drawing; he loved creating art. He was a history buff and studied genealogy and Native American history. He loved participating in reenactments across the US, which led him to opportunities to appear on PBS and History channel shows. However, one of his favorite opportunities came as an extra on the movie “The Patriot.”

David was a social butterfly and met a group of friends daily for coffee and good conversation. He loved to laugh and tried to find humor in everything. He was wise, understanding, and strong willed. David hated to put his burdens on other people, but helped anyone who needed it. He was at home in nature. Relaxing in his hammock, spending time outdoors, and exercising his green thumb in his gardens all brought him great joy. David was an avid Detroit Tigers Baseball fan, loved trips up north, antiquing and had a soft spot for all animals but most importantly his Pitbull, Titan. Every November, David took over the entire dining room with his extravagant Christmas Village collection which was enjoyed by the whole family. Above all David cherished time with his family and friends.

Survivors include: his son, Matthew Mitchell and his wife Lindsey of Holts Summit, Missouri.; two daughters, Brandi Peck and her husband Marty of Burlington, North Dakota, and Aleshia Mitchell; four siblings, Jerry Mitchell and his wife Janet of Lake Odessa, Michigan, Lawrence “Rich” Rowley and his wife Vicki of Perry, Michigan, Rhonda Armstrong of Laingsburg, Michigan, and Karl Mitchell and his wife Charla of Leslie, Michigan; and three grandchildren, Raegan Peck, Reese Peck, and Rome Peck.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Alyssa Mitchell.

A celebration of life service for David will be held at a later date in Michigan.
