Obituary for David S. Mueller

David Stanley “The Mule” Mueller, age 78, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2022 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Dave was born on January 4, 1944 in Jefferson City, the son of Richard William Mueller and Regina Theresia (Walther) Mueller. He was married on April 17, 1983 at the United Church of Christ in Jefferson City to Anne Veronica Roods Powell, who survives at the home.

A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Dave was a 1962 graduate of Jefferson City High School. After receiving an associate’s degree at the Kansas City Business College, Dave went to serve his country in the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, Dave served as a “ditty-bopper”, which is a Morse Code Interceptor, in Misawa, Japan. It was during this time in the Air Force that Dave earned the nickname “The Mule”.

After the service, he began his professional career for Lucky Cantrell at the Missouri State Capitol and then went to work at the Missouri Department of Corrections helping as the fiscal officer for budgeting. After his retirement from corrections, he did part-time jobs for Buescher Memorial Home, Westgate Lanes Bowling Alley, and Integrated Billing.

Dave was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Schubert where he sang in the choir for many years, and he was a life-long member of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5.

Dave could frequently be found working outside and tending to his beautiful vegetable garden. With tips from his dad and brother who were carpenters, he built a pole barn out of scrap wood at his farm in Centertown. He enjoyed staying busy on the farm and keeping it up so family could have fun on their visits. Dave was a league bowler, an animal lover, and an avid reader. He was currently working on genealogy of his family history.

Dave was blessed with a very large family and cherished every minute he spent with them. He had the opportunity to take his family on road trips to all of 50 states, cruises, and even traveled with them to different countries. He relished the time of playing cards and board games with his family and friends who he loved and cared for very much.

Dave is survived by: his loving wife of 39 years, Anne Mueller; three children, Ashley Mueller of Jefferson City, Mo., Emily Smasal of Jefferson City, Mo. and Cory Mueller (Stephanie) of Kansas City, Mo.; four step-children, Jennifer Hamilton Kresl (Randy) of New Bloomfield, Amy Powell Ripley of Utica, Mo., Bryan Powell (Amber) of Pikeville, North Carolina and Terry Powell Brenner of Jefferson City, Mo.; sisters, Venita Tuggle, Evelyn Hawkins, Carol Ray (Joe), all of Texas and Shirley Sieg (Bud) of Jefferson City, Mo.; grandchildren, Hunter and Hayden Smasal and Brayleigh and Jaelyn Mueller; step-grandchildren, Tyler Ripley, CJ Albee (Cameron), Jessica Maddox, Holly Potter (Jamie) and Megan Brenner; great-step-grandchildren, Evelyn, Amelia, Ryder Potter, Ryleigh Maddox, and Presley and Lainey Bailey; brother-in-law, Kenneth Roods of Jefferson City, Mo.; sister-in-law, Mary Sue Mueller of Jefferson City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
