Obituary for Della Chapman
Mrs. Della Rosaline Chapman, age 97, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020, at Heisinger Bluffs.
Della was born on January 9, 1923, in Jefferson City, Missouri, the daughter of William Lawrence and Otilla Katherine (Weith) Brenner. She was married on April 16, 1948, in Rosebud, Missouri, to Carl Franklin Chapman who preceded her in death on June 25, 1994.
A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, Della was a graduate from Jefferson City High School. She also attended St. John’s Lutheran School in Schubert, Missouri, and Forest Hill School in Cole County.
Della loved her children and her family more than anything. While her children were young, she was a homemaker. Once her children were in school, Della was employed with the Department of Social Services in the Division of Data Processing, where she retired in 1985.
Della was a woman of faith, and a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She volunteered with the Lutheran Braille Workers at Faith Lutheran Church for over 10 years.
Della enjoyed gardening, sewing, and baking. She kept her mind sharp doing jigsaw puzzles and scrapbooking. Some of Della’s favorite memories include flying to Colorado for her granddaughter's wedding, becoming a great-grandma, and taking day trips around the state.
Survivors include: three children, John D. Chapman of Barnett, Missouri, Carla G. Chapman of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Brenda J. Faken of Jefferson City, Missouri; one granddaughter, Heather LaBrune (Greg) of Fortville, Indiana; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Tate LaBrune.
Della was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings: Opal Bandelier, Rita Schneider, Claude Brenner, and Helen Wieberg.
Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 9:30 until 11:00 AM Friday, November 6, 2020. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Samuel Powell officiating. The general public is welcome to attend her services while following social distancing guidelines. Please stay six feet apart and avoid close contact. Everyone is welcome but please wear a personal mask.
