Mr. Donald L. Wilson, age 90, of Lenexa, Kansas, a former resident of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Tuesday, March, 5, 2019 at Westchester Village in Lenexa, Ks.

Don was born February 20, 1929 in Bunceton, Mo. a son of Harry A. and Cecil F. (Lewis) Wilson. He was married on July 3, 1955 in Jefferson City, Mo. to JoAnne Winn, who preceded him in death on September 9, 2014.

Don graduated from Osceola Public Schools in Osceola, Iowa. After high school he attended Jefferson City Junior College and Lincoln University in Jefferson City.

He served in the Missouri Army National Guard from August 1950 until September 1964. He was primarily responsible for the maintenance of fiscal accounting records of federally appropriated funds that were allocated for the operations for the Army and Air National Guard.

Don worked as Field Secretary with the Missouri State Medical Association in Jefferson City for over twenty years until his retirement in 1994. Before his work with the Medical Association, he was the Regional Consultant for the Northwest Region of the Missouri Heart Association in St. Joseph, Mo.; served as the research coordinator with the Missouri Heart Association in Columbia, Mo.; an assistant to the Director of Operations for the Missouri Regional Medical Program; and was the Executive Director for the Northwest Area of the Missouri Division of the American Cancer Society.

Don possessed a strong faith and was an active member of Concord Baptist Church. He was a deacon and sang in the choir. He enjoyed his membership with Rotary Clubs throughout the state and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship Award for his involvement.

He was blessed with a beautiful voice and always enjoyed singing. JoAnne was an accomplished pianist and the two of them would play and sing together any chance they saw appropriate. During holidays and family gatherings, the family home was always filled with music. Don was happiest when all the family could gather together for celebrations and he could barbeque for them. An avid sports fan as well, Don would always cheer for the University of Missouri and the Jefferson City Jays.

Survivors include: two sons, Robert Wilson (wife Rosalee) of Lenexa, Ks. and Donald Wilson II (wife Kathi) of O’Fallon, Mo.; five grandchildren, Patrick Wilson (wife Rebecca) of St. Peters, Mo., Jared Wilson of O’Fallon, Mo., Trenton Wilson (wife Sarah) of Florissant, Mo., April Wilson of Lenexa, Ks. and Suzanne Wilson Yao (husband James) of Kansas City, Ks.; and three great-grandchildren, Felicity Rose Wilson, Daniel Lewis Wilson, Amelia Grace Wilson and another great-grandson due in April 2019.

He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife of 59 years, JoAnne.
