Obituary

Dr. Betty Jane Bultmann Lohraff, age 79 years, of Jefferson City, Mo. entered eternal life through her death on Monday, March 23, 2020 at home surrounded by her family.

The daughter of O.E. and Clara Popp Bultmann, she was born in the Honey Creek community south of Jefferson City on December 22, 1940, and was baptized into the Christian faith shortly thereafter by her grandfather, Rev. E.G. Bultmann; she confirmed her faith in 1954. In 1962 she married Les W. Lohraff, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Kevin Lohraff (wife Amy) of Jefferson City, Mo. and Kenton Lohraff (wife Fonda) of Dixon, Mo.; two grandsons, Cedar and Finn Lohraff; two step-grandchildren, Katie and Kevin Bird; a niece, Emily Bultmann Johnson (husband Jason); and a great-nephew, Eric Johnson.

Dr. Lohraff was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Thomas O. Bultmann; an infant brother; a sister-in-law, Carole Sweeney Bultmann; and two brothers-in-law, Warren and Dale Lohraff.

A 1958 graduate of Jefferson City High School, Dr. Lohraff received a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri in 1994.

She worked for 37 years in the field of education, teaching from preschool through university graduate level and administering programs at both the local and state level. She taught in public and private schools in Chicago, Missouri, Michigan, Alaska and the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

Widely traveled, she served on numerous professional and civic boards and organizations during her career and consistently served her church in various capacities.

Dr. Lohraff possessed a strong faith that shaped her values and integrity her entire life. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Honey Creek, Mo. This church held great importance because her grandfather was a pastor at Immanuel Lutheran for over 30 years. Many other family members have been in the ministry and helped shape her faith.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Lohraff’s funeral service will be private at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Reverend Rick Foss officiating. Private graveside services and interment will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Honey Creek, Mo.

The service will be recorded for any friends and family to view and posted to her memorial page through the funeral home website by Saturday of this week. Family and friends are also encouraged to mail sympathy cards to the funeral home or leave online condolences that will be shared with her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Immanuel Lutheran School.

THANKS BE TO GOD, WHO GIVES US VICTORY OVER DEATH THROUGH OUR LORD, JESUS CHRIST!

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Freeman Mortuary, 915 Madison Street, Jefferson City, Mo. 65101.

Sorry to hear of this loss. I well remember her as a high school classmate in Jefferson City. She had a great ride and will be remembered by many.
