Obituary for Edward "Gene" Eugene Cave

Edward Eugene “Gene” Cave, age 66 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away peacefully, Saturday, January 19, 2019 in his home surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born on May 3, 1952 to Edward Lee and Myrtle Louise (Vaughan) Cave. Gene attended New Bloomfield Public Schools. He was a member of Oak Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at a young age. Later years, he was baptized and attended One In Christ Baptist Church of Jefferson City, Mo. Gene was a strong believer of Christ and enjoyed singing Gospel music.

Gene retired from Lincoln University in 2010 after 30 years of service. He also worked part-time at the Missouri State Capitol and Employment Security in Jefferson City, Mo. He was a dedicated, hard-worker, who was always willing to give more of himself to others and lend a helping hand with a smile. His greatest joy in life, besides loving his family, was in restoring and repairing automobiles and motorcycles. He was a top notch boxer and loved boxing matches. Gene ran track and played baseball as a child. He was loved by his family and many friends; and he always kept everyone laughing, but was serious when needed. He was no doubt everybody’s favorite.

Gene will be greatly missed and leaves behind to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 25 years, Betty Cave, who was his love and best-friend. He leaves behind three children, Kisty Phillips (Kevin) of Phoenix, AZ, Donald Lee of Jonesboro, AR, and Ugenena “Gena” Cave of Kansas City, Mo.; step-children: Mark Lue (Tysha), Angela Wilson, Alicia Wilson and Ebony Gilmore. Along with his children, he shared his love and devotion with seven grandchildren; Kalen, Darrion, Daesha, Daelyn, Trinity, Skylar, and Isabella. His love for his grandchildren was enormous. There was nothing he would not do for each and every one of them; always willing to go above and beyond no matter the circumstances.

Gene leaves ten siblings: Robert “Bob” Cave and Phillip “Wayne” Cave of New Bloomfield, MO., William “Billy” Cave of Fort Worth, TX., Richard Cave and Gary Cave of Milwaukee, WI., Jerry Cave of Jefferson City, MO., James “Mike” Cave of Kansas City, MO. and David “Mark” Cave, Carolyn Sue Cave and Laurie Ann Cave all of New Bloomfield, MO.; uncles: Clarence Vaughan, Wesley Vaughn (Florence) of Jefferson City, MO., and Leslie Vaughan of New Bloomfield, MO.; one aunt: Stella Specks of Fort Worth, TX., with hosts of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three aunts: Geraldine Holt, Josephine Vaughan, and Alice Vaughan; and two uncles: Ancel Holt and Raymond Specks.

Visitation will be held at Oak Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Guthrie, Mo. from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 26, 2019. A funeral service will be conducted immediately after at 12:00 p.m. noon with The Reverend Marion Mitchell and Geneva Whittler officiating. Additionally, Tameika Strickland will be reading memory letters. Graveside services will be held at the Oak Chapel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are welcomed and payable to the Lincoln University Foundation – Edward Eugene Cave Scholarship Fund, in honor of his dedicated years of services and to continue helping others in memory of his legacy.
