Obituary for Ethel M. Hartman

Ethel Marie Hartman, age 88, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at her home.

Ethel was born April 5, 1931 in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of the late John Isaac “Jake” and Julia Jane “Jude” (Rodden) Brockman. She was married September 5, 1950 to John J. Hartman, who preceded her in death on October 6, 2008.

A lifelong resident of central Missouri, Ethel graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1949. She was employed by the Missouri Public School Retirement System, retiring as an assistant administrator.

Ethel was a master at genealogy and spent countless hours completing family trees for both sides of her family. She shared her talent by volunteering for many years with the Missouri State Archives.

Survivors include: two sons, John J. Hartman, Jr. (wife Jolene) of Weston, Mo., and Philip Hartman (wife Sara) of Jefferson City, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Gerrard of Ozark, Mo.; one brother, John “Dick” Brockman of Brazito, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Jim Hyatt (wife Linda), Clay Hyatt (wife Laura), Alisha Lomeli (husband Luis), Julia Corlman (husband Shane), Sara Hartman, Hanna Hartman (husband Ryan Cole), Laura Hartman and Joseph Hartman; and eight great-grandchildren, Alyssa Hyatt, Hailey Hyatt, Max Hyatt, Jack Hyatt, Sam Hyatt, Maria Lomeli, Alivia Lomeli and Zoee Lomeli.

Ethel was also preceded in death by a son, Anthony Scott “Tony” Hartman, and two sisters, Pauline Rhodes and Mary Jane Coots.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Friends of the Missouri State Archives, 600 W. Main Street #119, Jefferson City, Mo. 65101.
