Obituary for Gregory G. Barlow
Gregory Gerald Barlow, age 68, of Jefferson City, Mo. passed away Thursday, October 31, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Bluffs surrounded by his loving family.
Greg was born on May 19, 1951 in Iberia, Mo., the son of Gerald Lloyd and Bonnie Jean (Aust) Barlow. He was married on May 11, 1985 in Cape Girardeau, Mo. to Jane Poyner, who survives.
Greg graduated from Mexico High School in 1969 and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in economics from Truman State University – Kirksville in 1973. In 1995, he graduated from The Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin.
Greg used his banking knowledge and skills for his entire career; which began in 1973 when he started working with the Wellsville Bank for several years. He went on to spend nearly 40 years as a bank regulator with the Missouri Division of Finance. Greg retired in 2013 as the Deputy Commissioner.
Greg and his family are active members of Faith Lutheran Church.
Family was always the center of Greg’s life and he cherished any activities that involved spending time with them. Some of his favorite memories with family included: playing washers, watching old westerns with his daughters and playing cards, especially a good game of pitch. He loved to travel and road trip with them – always wanting to be the driver. He was also skilled with wood working and loved to make things for his girls. Greg enjoyed the outdoors, especially working in his yard which was always well manicured. He was a talented handy man and took the time to fix anything for family, friends and neighbors.
Survivors include: his wife of 34 years, Jane Barlow; two daughters, Sarah Broughton (husband Jared) of Blue Springs, Mo., and Lesley Mathews (husband Joe) of Grain Valley, Mo.; his brother, Jeff Barlow (wife Susan) of Kansas City, Mo.; his niece, Jill Gockel (husband Eric) of Maryville, Mo.; four great-nephews and great-niece; Kody, Nathan, Jaxson and Kamryn; his sweet dog, Bella; and one grandchild that will be joining his family in February 2020.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Bonnie Barlow; and a nephew, Jeremy Barlow.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Jefferson City, Mo. with his funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Eric Gledhill officiating.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Hardin Cemetery in Hardin, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Faith Lutheran Church, 2027 Industrial Drive, Jefferson City, Mo. 65109 to help support the Faithful Ringers; Hardin Cemetery, 10081 Shirley Circle, Hardin, Mo. 64035; or the Heisinger Bluffs St. Joseph Neighborhood Benevolent Care, 1002 W.
