Obituary for Guanita Jinks

Guanita Mae Jinks, age 87, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Sunday, February 13, 2022 at home surrounded by family.

Guanita was born on May 30, 1934 in Cedar City, Mo., the daughter of Elisha and Leatha Mae (Bugbee) Basinger. She was married on July 4, 1956 in Cedar City, Mo. to Paul Jinks who survives at home.

As a lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Guanita graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1952. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Central Missouri State. Later, she received her Master’s in Education from Lincoln University in 1975.

Guanita was an enthusiastic elementary school educator for 37 years until her retirement in 1997. She spent the majority of her career teaching in the Jefferson City Public Schools, much of that time being spent at Moreau Heights and Lawson Elementary Schools. She was passionate about the success of her students while also being a mentor to younger teachers.

While being an avid traveler, Guanita achieved her goal of visiting all seven continents. She loved all animals, especially Boston Terriers and cats, while also enjoying a good book. Additionally, she was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church of Jefferson City.

With family of primary importance to Guanita, her survivors include: her loving husband of 65 years, Paul Jinks of Jefferson City, Mo.; two children, Tony Jinks (Marguerite Havlis) of Tucson, Az. and Kimbra Bilberry (Rick) of Houston, Tx.; two grandchildren, Meredith Stahl (Kyle) of Houston, Tx. and David Jinks of Phoenix, Az.; two great-grandchildren, Connor and Corban Stahl; and one sister-in-law, Laura Mankin of Topeka, Ks.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Wyman Basinger, Harold Basinger and Arlin Basinger.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2022.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2022 in the Freeman Chapel with Reverend Dr. Stephen Buchholz officiating. Graveside service and interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
