Obituary for Howard Mantle

Howard Kenneth Mantle, age 86, of Jefferson City Mo., passed away on August 29, 2022, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital.

He was born on August 27, 1936, in Linn, Mo., the son of Theron Orval and Wilma Olene Guame Mantle. He was married on May 2, 1959, in Westphalia, Mo., to Ellen “Gay” (Allen) Mantle, who preceded him in death on August 1, 2012.

A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area. Howard grew up near Linn and operated the family’s dairy farm. He joined the Army where he was deployed to France as a wheeled vehicle mechanic. After his time in the Military, he began working for Modern Litho Print Company in 1960 as a papercutter and deliveryman. Subsequently he worked in the platemaking, pasteup, stripping, and camera departments. He became the Plant Superintendent in 1974; a position he held until he retired in 1997.

An outdoorsman, Howard loved fishing, hunting and gardening. He, along with his wife and kids, spent many weekends and vacations camping and exploring creeks and riverbeds. Howard was very supportive of his family, attending countless sporting events for his children and grandchildren. In any situation big or small, he was the cornerstone of his family.
