Obituary for Jake Kerr

Joshua J. “Jake” Kerr, age 26, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2022.

He was born on December 16, 1995 in Columbia, the son of Richard Allan and Christina Louise (Christmann) Kerr. He was a 2014 graduate from Jefferson City High School. Jake was employed with the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union No. 36 as a sheet metal worker. He was a previous employee of Septagon Construction doing concrete, carpentry, and ironwork for six years.

Throughout his life, Jake made a magnitude of friends. He was one of those people who brightly introduced himself and was never forgotten. Everyone knows he never met a stranger. As a child, Jake naturally excelled in multiple sports but upon growing into his teenage years, his interests shifted toward skateboarding and music. He had a deep appreciation for all types of music and an affinity for memorizing lyrics and quoting movies, even at the expense of those watching alongside him. His happy place was being outdoors and he enjoyed a good float trip, attempting to stay upright in a kayak, and trying to fish. Jake cherished his relationships with his closest friends and was always up for a “Boys night” or attending family reunions with them. He loved clothes, hats and shoes, always making sure he looked fresh.

Jake exhibited his sense of humor and overall laid-back demeanor in his goofy, funny, and carefree personality. He lived life with a sense of fearlessness that others envied. Underneath his outspoken nature, resided the soft hearted, compassionate and loving man that Jake truly was at his core. He was unapologetically himself and that is how he will be remembered. He was an eternal optimist and always looked for the silver lining, a lesson deeply rooted by the teachings of his mother. Jake was known for his one-liners and catch phrases. “Hell ya, brother!!” “We’ll see ya” and “Oh, how you doin?” are just a few of the quotes that Jake’s family and friends will hold in their memory.

Survivors include his daughter, Ashtyn Kay Kerr and her mother, Lynlee Wagner; son, Easton Allan Nicholas Kerr and his mother, Anna Barbagallo; parents, Rick and Christina Kerr of Jefferson City; brother, Dru Bloess and wife Kendra and their children, Braelynn and Everly of Sedalia; grandparents, Jerry and Joann Kerr, lovingly known as “Nanny and Gampy” of Stover; uncles, Brian Kerr of Jefferson City and Paul Christmann and wife Bettie Jo of Georgia; aunt, Carla Prevallet and husband Steve of Springfield; and many friends.
