Obituary for James R. Loyd

Mr. James R. Loyd, age 87 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at his home surrounded by family.

Jim was born October 1, 1931 in Hermann, Mo. the son of Fred and Pearl Stoehr Loyd. He was married on March 3, 195l in Jefferson City, Mo. to Bonnie VanStratten who preceded him in death February 23, 2003.

A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Jim was a 1949 graduate of Jefferson City High School and attended the Jefferson City Junior College.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 until his discharge as a Sergeant in 1954.

Jim was employed with Exchange National Bank on June 1, 1950 until his retirement as the Executive President in 1996. During his service to the bank, he was a member of the Exchange National Bank Board of Directors, and a member of the Exchange Bancshares Board of Directors, a member of the Incentive Committee and Audit Committee of the Exchange National Bancshares. After retirement, he served as an Advisory Director of Exchange National Bank which later became Hawthorn Bank until the time of his death.

He was a life long active member of Memorial Baptist Church. He served as the Director of Music at Memorial Baptist for forty-seven years. He was a Deacon and was the former Chairman of the Board of Deacons. In 1989, he was the recipient of the Bob Woolley Award for Achievement in Church Music for Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo. Jim was also a member of the Advisory Board of the Windermere Baptist Assembly.

Jim was extremely active in the community. He served Capital Region Medical Center in many capacities including the Chairman of the Board of Directors and, member of the Executive Committee, member of the Finance Committee, and member of the Long Range Planning Committee. To honor his service, he received a Life Membership to the Board of Governors of the Capital Region Medical Center. He also served as Vice-Chairman and Board Member of the University of Missouri Health Systems at Columbia and served as President of Board Member of the Mid-Missouri Medical Foundation.

Other community involvements including Past President and member of the Board of Directors of the Jefferson City Rotary Club; member of the Board of Directors of the Cole County Extension Center; member of the Board and Treasurer of the Jefferson City Area United Way; member of the Board and Treasurer of the Jefferson City Y.M.C.A. Past President of the Jefferson City Jay Booster Club; a member of the Board of Directors of the Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce, and a Board Member and Sponsor Committee Chairman of the Community Concert Assn., and Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the Jefferson City Betterment Assn.

Jim was a life long member of the Jefferson City Public Schools Alumni Assn. and was awarded the Jefferson City Public Schools Distinguished Alumni Award in 1997.

Survivors include: three children, Karen Davis of Jefferson City, Mo., Stephen Loyd and his wife Karen of Kansas City, Mo., and Shari Allen and her husband Greg of Jefferson City, Mo.; five grandchildren: Ryan Davis, Scott Davis, Brooke Mantle, Brittany Allen, and Mackenzie Allen; two step-grandchildren, DeeAnn Kaempfe and Heather Coulter; three great-grandchildren, Kailyn Davis, Camdyn Mantle and Hadley Mantle; five step-great-grandchildren, Jackson Miller, Madison Throckmorton, Harrison Throckmorton, Jack Scoby and Daylin Petty; and two step-great-great-grandchildren, Kinsley Throckmorton and Oliva Throckmorton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of fifty-one years, Bonnie Loyd.

Visitation will be held at Memorial Baptist Church from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2019.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2019 at Memorial Baptist Church. Graveside services with military honors will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Memorial Baptist Church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
