James Lester Lee Reed, age 79, of Hartsburg, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital in Columbia, Mo.

He was born on June 20, 1940 in Tebbetts, Mo., a son of Alonzo Lester and Mildred Rosalee (Jones) Reed. He was married on November 5, 1966 in Holts Summit, Mo. to Sharon Sue Onger.

At age 27, James joined the United States Army. After leaving the military, James worked on his craft as a roofer – a trade he was able to pass on to his son. He owned and operated Jim’s Roofing and Painting. He later was employed by the Missouri Department of Corrections, where he retired as Supervisor I in 2003.

James was a member of Harvest Time Ministries in Holts Summit and the Central Missouri Radio Club.

Jim’s favorite place was his family farm and homestead, Cedar Creek. He enjoyed many days of fishing, hunting and tending cattle on the family farm. Jimmi loved playing the penny slots and bingo, where he could be found most Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons. Jim had coffee with the gang every Monday morning at McDonald’s and breakfast at the Towne Grill with “the girls”, family and friends.

Survivors include his children, Ronald Reed (Connie) of Hartsburg, Mo. and Rebecca Reed (Joey) of Holts Summit, Mo.; his siblings, Shirley Love, Imogene Wyatt (David), Kate Brewer, Betty Woody, Wanda Jones, Johnny Reed and William “Dale” Reed (Ruby); his grandchildren, Bradly Libbert (Aliesha), Ashlea Parker (Travis), Megan Libbert, Kayla Libbert, Garrett Bommel and Kristyn Reed; nine great-grandchildren; and his faithful companion, Tater.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sharon; a son, James Randy Reed; siblings, Donald Reed, Ruth Mickey, Mary Hershmann, Nellie Ousley, Juanita Morris; an infant brother, Ronald Reed and his beloved dog, Emmy.

My sincere condolences to the Reed family. May you find comfort in your loving memories, and in God's promise to soon "swallow up death forever" and "wipe away the tears from all faces." (Isaiah 25;8) That world will be without conflict and war. With deepest sympathy.
