Obituary for Jane Burd
Jane Marie Burd, age 74, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Manor Care.
She was born on May 6, 1948, in Princeton, Mo., the daughter of Raymond and Juanita (Wharton) Hagan. She was married on October 27, 1972, in Jefferson City, Mo. to Ronald Allen Burd who survives in the home.
A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, Jane attended Jefferson City High School and then went on to earn her beautician and real estate licenses. She then began her career with the Department of Revenue, retiring as a supervisor in the sales tax division following 29 years of service.
Wherever she was, Jane could always be found petting a puppy and through the years gave a loving home to several strays. Flowers always cheered her up and she always looked forward to spring every year. While traveling with Ron as he was transferred with his job, she decided that Ft. Meyers, Florida was her favorite place to live and if she ever moved again that is where she would choose.
Survivors include: her loving husband of over 50 years, Ron Burd; sister, Sharon Gonder of Jefferson City, Mo.; niece, Patricia King of Jefferson City, Mo.; great niece, LeeAnna Penn of Junction City, Ks.; great nephew, Austin King of Jefferson City, Mo.; great-great-nephew, Chase Penn of Junction City, Ks.; great-great-nieces, Sierra and Gemma Penn both of Junction City, Ks.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jeffrey; sister, Janice Wood; brother-in-law, Glen Gonder; maternal grandparents, Lyman and Valetta Wharton; and paternal grandparents, Ross and Ethel Pearl Hagan.
Private graveside services and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery with the Reverend Jim Wood officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or to the Friends of the Jefferson City Animal Shelter.
