Obituary for Janice K. Winer

Janice Kay Winer, age 84, of Holts Summit, Mo., passed away Sunday, November 13, 2022, at The Timbers Assisted Living.

Janice was born May 31, 1938 in Odessa, Mo., the oldest child of James Robert “J.R.” and Mary Orlena (McNeel) Underwood. She was married on June 3, 1956 in New Bloomfield, Mo. to Walter M. Clark, Jr. and from this marriage, they were blessed with four children.

A resident of Callaway County for the majority of her life, Janice was a 1956 graduate of New Bloomfield High School.

She was employed as the office manager for KRCG-TV for numerous years, and later went on to work for the Missouri Department of Social Services in the Division of Aging until her retirement in 1999. She retired to help babysit her grandchildren and cherished that time with them during their younger years.

Janice, above everything, cared for and loved her family. She was an amazing cook and able to provide the food for family gatherings and holidays; always making sure that no one left hungry. Janice also had a deep devotion to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Being the oldest of eight children, Janice had to make sure that all of her siblings were taken care of and built lifetime relationships with them. She cherished the times she spent at her brother’s lake, which earned the nickname “Uncle Larry’s Lake”. Janice also enjoyed playing the classic card game “Canasta” with her sisters.

Janice possessed a strong faith and had the opportunity to visit the Holy Lands in Israel. She enjoyed the occasional peace and quiet time. One of her favorite things to do was to sit down and get caught up in a good mystery novel. She also had a great fondness toward cats and made sure that every cat she saw had a good meal.

Janice is survived by: four children, Mike Clark (Vicki) of New Bloomfield, Mo., Lori Adams of Jefferson City, Mo., Alan Clark (Kelly) of New Bloomfield, Mo. and Susan Woods (Josh) of New Bloomfield, Mo.; four siblings, James Ray Underwood (Carol) of Holts Summit, Mo., Becky Dodds of Jefferson City, Mo., Brenda Custard (Bob) of New Bloomfield, Mo., Rita Nichols (Gene) of New Bloomfield, Mo.; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Barney.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Larry Underwood; and sisters, Betty Geoffrey and Mary Jo Powell.
