Obituary for Jean Schuler

Marilyn Jean Schuler, age 87, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Capital Region Medical Center.

She was born on August 21, 1935 in Hannibal, Mo., the daughter of William and Elsie (Schutz) Leonard.

Jean was a graduate of Trinity Lutheran High School in Jefferson City. She went on to work for the Missouri Hotel and Motel Association for many years and later retired from the State of Missouri Department of Social Services.

A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Jean was a woman of strong faith. She diligently prayed and openly displayed her faith in Jesus in the way she lived her life. She showed her thoughtful nature in the way that she always remembered important dates and called periodically to check in on the people in her life. She even brought baked goods and gifts along on errands to bless the staff at church, the bank or any other place she needed to visit. Jean loved garage sales and enjoyed the search for treasures.

Though she would do anything for anyone, nothing meant more to Jean than her family. She was the absolute best Mom and Grammie. Her granddaughters will always reflect on the days she picked them up from school to go for a treat at her home, Zesto or Sonic and the many heartfelt conversations they had with her, encouraging them to trust in God’s plan and perfect timing. Jean was a perfect balance of feisty and strong-willed, and loving and approachable. She loved to laugh and be silly and her loved ones will forever remember the tough, selfless and caring woman that was, Jean.

Survivors include: her children, Julie Cooley and Jeff Schuler both of Jefferson City, Mo.; and her beloved granddaughters, Rachel Cooley and Victoria Cooley.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Joan McCoy.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Jefferson City Animal Shelter, 2308 Hyde Park Rd, Jefferson City, MO 65109.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Freeman Mortuary, 915 Madison St, Jefferson City, MO 65101.
