Mrs. Doris Jean White, age 87, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Bluffs surrounded by her loving family.

Jean was born on August 17, 1932 in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of Louis and Daisy (Coe) Hilgert. She was married on July 19, 1958 in Jefferson City, Mo. to Lewis Elton White who preceded her in death on March 4, 1997.

A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Jean worked for several years at Tweedie Shoe Company before starting her family.

Jean was a homemaker for the majority of her life and cherished time supporting her family. Jean even helped her son Brian in his home decorating business. Many memories include train trips with family, playing Bingo and 31, and having family together for holiday gatherings. Jean’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life and she loved to spoil them. She truly cherished her family and friends.

She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Jean will be remembered for her giving heart, witty sense of humor, colorful language, and ability to make everyone feel special.

Survivors include: two children, Chris White (wife Teresa) of Jefferson City, Mo. and Lisa Schoephoerster (husband Paul) of Fayette, Mo.; one daughter-in-law, Lynne White of Jefferson City, Mo.; brother-in-law, Floyd White (wife Alicia) of Jefferson City, Mo.; sister-in-law, Pat Mantle of Jefferson City, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Nick White, Spencer White, Grace Moss, Caleb White, Kirby Schoephoerster, Jack Schoephoerster, and William Koo; two great-grandchildren, Harper Moss and Jackson White; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 38 years, Lewis; her son, Brian White; and eight siblings, Irma, Buford “Cub”, Ruby, Freddy, Peggy, Adrian “Monk”, Eileen, and Bobby.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private immediate family service will be conducted Monday, August 3, 2020 in the Freeman Chapel officiated by her family. Graveside services and interment will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

A webcast of Mrs. White’s service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday for friends and extended family to view by going to her memorial page on Freeman Mortuary’s website. Sympathy cards can be mailed to the funeral home, and condolences can be left online to be given to her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to The Marfan Foundation, 22 Manhasset Ave., Port Washington, NY 11050.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Freeman Mortuary, 915 Madison Street, Jefferson City, Mo. 65101.

Lisa, Chris, and family,
So sorry to hear about your mother. The few times I was privileged to be in her presence, her personality spoke volumes. It was obvious to me how all her children turned out to be so smart, loving and fun. My heart goes out to you all and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Aunt Jean and I ended up across the hall from each other at St Joseph's Bluffs last fall. St Louis Cardinals were in the post season and we watched all the games, in our own rooms, but still together. We whooped and hollered at every good play, and nurses came running at every screech!! We cracked up every time!! I'll miss her beautiful smile and her good hearted nature. The Hilgert siblings are all together now, rest peacefully!!
