Obituary for Jeanne Russell

Jeanne P. Russell, age 87 years of Jefferson City, Missouri died Thursday, June 6, 2019.

She was born February 12, 1932, in St. Louis, Missouri to John Lancaster Porter and Harriet Averill Porter. She went to Holy Redeemer School in Webster Grove, MO and then Immaculate Conception and St. Peter grade schools in Jefferson City. She attended and graduated from St. Peter High School. She attended one year at Webster College in Webster Groves, MO, where she showed great promise as an art student.

Her work history included Kansas City Life Insurance, the Jewel Shop, American Life & Accident Insurance Co, and 22 years at Employment Security, from where she retired in 1991.

On July 31, 1971, she married Ben Wood Russell, Jr. who preceded her in death on July 7, 2001.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Immaculate Conception Church Circle where she was a member of the Council of Clubs and represented the Church Circle for 12 years. She was a member of ARMSE (the MO State Retired Employees group), the American Legion Auxiliary, The Elks Club swimming pool, the Capital Region Hospital Auxiliary, St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary and two bridge clubs. She and Ben were charter members of the Learning in Retirement group.

She is survived by: two sons, Richard S. Starks II (Aimee), and David L. Starks (Tobi); six grandchildren, Andrea Starks-Corbin (Jared), Lauren Starks Franklin (Stephen), Ashley Bertolotti Geritz (Chad), Carrie Bertolotti Lawrence (Parker), Leslie Starks and Leah Starks; two great-grandchildren, Eleanor Vaughan Corbin and Landree Jean Geritz; two sisters, Harriett Debroeck Stockman (Jack) of Mill Creek, Washington and Gloriana L’Ecuyer of St. Louis, Missouri; and her stepson, Ben Wood Russell III (Jeannie) and their family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Wood Russell, Jr.; her daughter, Catherine Starks Bertolotti; and her grandson, Ehren Stanley Starks.

Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m. on next Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. next Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Church with the Reverend Donald Antweiler officiating. Private interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Joseph Bluffs, Hospice Compassus, or the American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Freeman Mortuary.
