Obituary for Jerry Jeffries

Jerry Wayne Jeffries, age 75, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Capitol Region Medical Center.

He was born on July 22, 1947 in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Maxine Jeffries. He was married on June 7, 1969 in Jefferson City, Mo. to his high school sweetheart Carol Elaine Ewens who survives at the home.

Jerry was a 1969 graduate of Jefferson Senior High School and then went on to attend Lincoln University, earning a degree in criminal justice.

After going through the police academy, Jerry joined the Jefferson City Police Department where he served for 32 years. Jerry started at JCPD as a patrol officer, and later retired as a detective. While living in Las Vegas, Nevada in his retirement, Jerry worked security at many casinos such as: Aladdin, Excalibur, and Luxor. He also served on the security detail at Valley Hospital in Las Vegas.

Jerry was a family man above all else. He enjoyed nothing more than days spent with his wife, children and grandchildren and often expressed his pride in them. His background in law enforcement made him fond of watching crime programs on T.V. and he even loved horror films. He kept his mind sharp and his hands busy conquering puzzles and expressed his creative side in writing, having authored a book on the history of the Jefferson City Police Department entitled “From Hog Alley to The State House”. He was a collector of Diecast cars, a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Vegas Golden Knights and an expert level teller of “Dad Jokes”.

Jerry was an incredibly hard worker, dedicated to his career for the Police Department, and somehow still found time to be the best dad in the world. He was passionate about being present for his family and rarely missed an event involving the grandkids. Those who knew and loved Jerry will forever remember him as their laid back, loving, empathetic, caring, and indominable husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Jerry is survived by: his loving wife of 53 years, Carol; children, Wendy Jeffries (John Kriete) of Jefferson City, Mo., Shannon Jeffries (Serena) of Sedalia, Mo.; siblings, Elaine Hernandez (Dave) of Bonnets Mill, Mo., Mary Ann Callahan (Richard) of Jefferson City, Mo., Linda Jefferson (George) of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Haley Parton (Cody Breeden), Cheyenne Jeffries (Josh Fietek), Dustin Jeffries, Miranda Jeffries, Kaytlyn Logston (Robbie); four great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Breeden, Cassius Breeden, Phoenix Fietek, and Rome Logston.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Maxine; aunt Irene Brumley; siblings Roger Brumley, and Rose Griffith.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 1, 2022.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 1, 2022 the Freeman Mortuary Chapel with the Reverend Rudy Pulido officiating. Interment will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Fraternal Order of Police, 715 Jefferson Street, Jefferson City, Mo., 65101.
