Obituary for Jessica L. Pabst

Mrs. Jessica L. Pabst, age 37, of Lake St. Louis, Mo., a former resident of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital in Lake St. Louis due to complications of pneumonia.

Jessica was born on May 21, 1985, in Ste. Genevieve, Mo. the oldest daughter of Robert Alan and Janet Marie (Schaum) Land. She grew up in Ste. Genevieve but moved to Jefferson City while she was in elementary school.

Jessica was a 2003 graduate of Jefferson City High School. She was captain of the cheerleading team her senior year and active with Student Council. She also created lifelong friends from her time in high school. She went on to study at the University of Missouri and received her bachelor’s degree in business management in 2007 while being a member of the Mizzou Cheerleading Team and the Tri Delta Sorority. During her years in college, she interned with Representative Bill Deeken which sparked her interest in serving in politics.

After college, she met the love of her life, Brandon Pabst. They were married on June 29, 2013, in Jefferson City. They welcomed their first son, Paxton, in 2015 and then came Lincoln in 2019. For Jessica, this made life complete as she simply wanted to love, be loved and have a family. Jessica embraced being a “boy” mom by making every day an adventure for Brandon and the boys from planning fun day activities to the annual Christmas tradition of going to Big Cedar. Jessica loved her boys with all her heart, and they loved her back with all of theirs. Family was important to Jessica and that extended to her immediate family and friends. She loved having a full house, one full of laughter and happiness. Paxton’s friends would come and go as they pleased and jokingly would call her mom because she would always feed them and make sure they were having the best of times.

Jessica had a caring heart and a passion for helping people who didn’t have a voice. She was drawn to politics from her time in college. For more than 10 years she lobbied at the Missouri State Capitol. She thrived in her profession because of her God-given talents of being extremely organized, understanding the issues, being determined, and having a contagious smile. She also loved fostering her passion of helping people by mentoring others for creating change through politics.

Jessica was employed with Husch Blackwell Strategies for the past four years working as the Director of Health Plans with the University of Missouri Health Network. Before her time with their firm, she was the Director of Advocacy at SSM Healthcare for more than five years. It is here at SSM, where her passion for healthcare advocacy was born specifically for the children at Cardinal Glennon. She also worked for the Giddens Group, and with Patek and Associates for several years. She was extremely grateful to Senator Rob Mayer for being the first to hire her on his legislative team shortly out of college.

She was a past board member of Friends of the Governor’s Mansion, served on Missouri KidsFirst, Missouri Women’s Policy Network and the Fostering Health Children Clinic Board. She volunteered as the Vice President of the Evie’s Warriors and enjoyed her time on Leadership St. Louis.

Mizzou tailgating with her lifelong friends was a highlight of her life. Purchasing the next great shoes and reading were her ways to relax. Her biggest hobby though was creating the next great adventure for family or friends.

Her legacy will live through all the amazing memories and love she has created with family and friends. They will remember her joyous personality, amazing smile, crazy stories and ability to put anyone at ease. Jessica provided a bright light for our world with her vibrant personality, sharp wit, and spark. She made everyone her friend.
