Obituary for Jim Ortmeyer
James Andrew Ortmeyer, 73, passed into eternal life on Friday, November 27, 2020 surrounded by his wife and daughters.
He was born in Jefferson City on February 25, 1947 to Otto and Edna (Popp) Ortmeyer. Jim was a lifelong resident of Jefferson City. On August 14, 1966, he married Linda (Hill) Ortmeyer in Monroe City, Mo. To this union two daughters were born, Lisa (Boyd) Rice of Hartsburg, Mo., and Kristi Lehmen of Jefferson City, Mo.
Jim loved being outdoors and cherished time hunting, fishing, and spending time at Lake Ozark. Jim was happiest at home making memories with his wife, children and grandkids.
Jim’s lifetime service to his country is evident. He retired from the Army National Guard as a Chief Warrant Officer (CW4), and continued to serve while employed by the Missouri National Guard and The State of Missouri Veterans Recognition Program. In 1973, he joined the Cole County Volunteer Fire Protection District, where he served also on its Board of Directors from 1993 until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and the NRA.
In addition to his wife and daughters, survivors include his grandchildren Michael Gilmore, Megan (Gilmore) Craig, Matthew Gilmore, Addison Rice, Sawyer Lehmen, Joah Lehmen, and David Rice. Jim is also survived by great grandchildren Alec Gilmore, Brayton Craig, Bexley Gilmore, Jameson Gilmore and Weston Gilmore. Jim loved his seven nephews and nieces, Spencer Dalton, Joshua Sommerer, Katie (Sommerer) Ringwald, Joseph Sommerer, Vincent Sommerer, John Sommerer, Leah Sommerer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one great grandchild, infant Jackson Bentley Gilmore in 2017.
A visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Honey Creek, Mo.
A Christian service, officiated by the Reverend Tony Fields, will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with a graveside service including military honors to follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Note that attendees may choose to listen to the 1 p.m. service from their cars, tuning in to 104.1 FM from the church’s parking lot at 8231 Tanner Bridge Rd., Jefferson City, MO 65101.
