Obituary for Joan Holliday

Joan Holliday, age 90, of Jefferson City, Mo. passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Capital Region Medical Center.

She was born on July 24, 1932 in Jefferson City, the daughter of Edwin Chester and Meta (Steinmetz) Barnard. She was married to her soulmate, Henry Paul Holliday, on June 2, 1951 in Jefferson City, Mo. He passed away November 13, 2010.

A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Joan graduated from Jefferson City High School and then was a later graduate of the Jefferson City Junior College in clerical work.

For many years, Joan was employed at Tweedie Footwear Factory. In August of 1994, she retired from the Department of Revenue Licensing Bureau following 27 years of service.

Joan loved working outside mowing the grass, planting flowers and doing anything she needed to maintain her immaculate home. She loved to dance and play bingo. Her favorite pastime though, was taking care of her family. Joan was a proud woman; if she was not puttering around the yard or cleaning her home, she was probably somewhere eating a sweet snack or enjoying some ice cream.

Joan made an impact everywhere she went and with everyone she met. Just ask anyone who knew her for more than five minutes and they will gush over her kindness while also asking themselves, “Wait. What just happened?” She was an intelligent woman who prided herself on being mathematically inclined and especially good in English. Her son, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchild were her world. Joan was simply a one-of-a kind lady and keeping people on their toes, at all times, was her specialty.

Joan Holliday is survived by: her son Dennis R. Holliday of Jefferson City, Mo.; sister, Patsy Greenway of Eldon, Mo.; three grandchildren, Angela Brenner (Russ) of Jefferson City, Mo., De’Nel Imsland (Darrell) of Jefferson City, Mo., and Scott Holliday of Austin, Tx.; two great-grandchildren, Evan Brenner (Bree), Lauryn Letterman (Trevor) both of Jefferson City, Mo.; and one great-great-grandson, Otto Brenner.

Joan was preceded in death by: her brother, Bobby Lee Barnard; one sister, Bonnie Kempker; four half-sisters, Agnes Rhoads, Margaret Barr, Edith Drinkard, Juanita Melton; and two half-brothers, Ed Drinkard and Lloyd Drinkard.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Reverend Sam Powell and the Reverend Jessie Schlie officiating. Interment will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery.
