Obituary for Joan "Pete" Kammeyer

Joan Margaret “Pete” Petersen Poese Kammeyer, age 89 years, of New Bloomfield, Mo. died Monday, February 1, 2021 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, Mo.

She was born to the Reverend John W. and Emma M. (Knoblauch) Petersen on August 15, 1931 at Lutheran Hospital in Norfolk, Nebraska where her name was written in the Book of Life during her baptism on the same date. She reaffirmed her Baptismal vows at her confirmation on March 25, 1949. She was given into holy matrimony to Wilmot “Pic” W. Poese on November 23, 1955, he preceded her in death. She married Kenneth F. Kammeyer on September 9, 2006, he also preceded her in death.

Joan graduated from St. John’s Academy in 1949, St. John’s College in 1951, Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 and College of St. Francis in 1980. She was employed as an RN for many years in Missouri and Overland Park, Ks. In 1995, Joan retired from the Missouri Department of Health where she served as a Hospital Nursing Consultant and finally in 2008 retired as the Parish Nurse Coordinator Lake Regional Health System, Osage Beach, Mo. Joan truly cherished her position as Parish nurse and often said it was her favorite.

She was a woman of strong faith and enjoyed membership in a number of professional, civic, and religious organizations. She was a member of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod Congregations. She was a previous member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Eldon and a current member of Faith Lutheran Church in Jefferson City. Through the years she facilitated many Women’s Bible Studies and was active in the Church Choir.

Survivors include: her three children, Julie Heavin (Jon) of New Bloomfield, Mo., Mark Poese (Dana) of Stewartsville, Mo. and Sheryl Grimes of New Bloomfield, Mo.; one brother, Rev. Thomas Petersen of Austin, Tx.; four grandchildren, Erich Jerozal (Kaoru), Luke Jerozal (Amanda), Andrea Stoops, and Max Poese (Rachel); and 13 great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John Petersen.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Faith Lutheran Church in Jefferson City, Mo.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Faith Lutheran Church with the Reverend Eric Gledhill officiating. Joan’s service will be open to the public and those in attendance are asked to wear masks and maintain social distancing guidelines.

Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64133.

Joan requested no flowers be sent in her memory. In lieu of flowers she requested memorial contributions be sent to the Bethany Lutheran Church at 100 North Grand, Eldon, MO 65026 to assist in adding an elevator to their building.
