Obituary for John G. McCasland

John Gale McCasland, age 71, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away Friday, September 2, 2022, at Jefferson City Manor surrounded by his loving family.

John was born on February 28, 1951 in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Ralph Edward and Ethel Marie (Onger) McCasland. He was married in Wardsville, Mo., on November 25, 1972 to Beverly Ann Bruemmer, who survives.

A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, John was a 1969 graduate of Jefferson City High School. He attended St. Martin Catholic Church for 49 years and was confirmed and baptized in 2021.

After high school he served in the Missouri Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1975. From his service to our country, John was a member of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5.

John followed in his father’s footsteps and was employed with Union Pacific Railroad for 38 years where he was an engineer until his retirement 2011. He was also part of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and United Transportation Union.

Family was everything to John. He could often be found at a baseball or softball game watching his children play. He practiced pitching with his kids year-round and even made a pitching mound in the front yard while he served as their catcher. His hobbies included collecting knives, fishing in his Ranger bass boat and hunting. He lived for the moments that involved his children and grandchildren, including time spent on family vacations. John loved traveling with family and friends. Being an avid hunter and fisherman, he relished visiting Alaska where he would fish the Kenai River.

John is survived by: his loving wife of 49 years, Beverly McCasland; two children, Samantha Bond (husband James) of Madison, Al., and Ralph McCasland of Wardsville, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Jonathan Bond, Leighton McCasland, Caleb Bond, Rylee McCasland, and Eastyn McCasland.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ethel McCasland.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at St. Martin Catholic Church.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martin Catholic Church with the Reverend Jason T. Doke officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
