Obituary

John Fred Westermann, age 72 years, of Marys Home, Mo., passed away Sunday, May 10, 2020 at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born on March 22, 1948 in Owensville, Mo., the son of Allen and Nora (Meyer) Westermann. He was married on August 14, 1976 in Jefferson City, Mo. to Kathryn (Miller) Westermann who survives at home.

John was employed with Westinghouse Electric Corporation and its successor, ABB, Inc. for over 40 years working in maintenance.

John had a love for the outdoors, whether he was fishing, hunting, camping, gardening or watching his bird feeders, he was at home in nature. He had a great sense of humor and cherished time with his family. John will always be known for his big heart, giving nature and approachable demeanor. The old saying “he never met a stranger” was absolutely true of John; he greeted all with a smile and was willing to do anything he could for others. John was beloved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by his loving family.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 43 years, Kathryn Westermann of Marys Home, Mo.; son, Derrick Alan Westermann (Tonya) of Marys Home Mo.; daughter, Lisa Marie Strejcek (Steven) of Clever, Mo.; brother, Richard Westermann (Bertie) of Owensville, Mo.; grandchildren, Paige, Travanna (Robbie), Kristin (Caleb), Anthony, Levi (Taylor Rae) and Taylor; great-grandchildren, Maddison, Kinley, Chase, Nicholas, and Evalytt; godson, Matt Dabbs (Angela) of Warrenton, Mo.; numerous brother and sister-in-laws; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elaine Bossaller; and son, Steven Westermann.

A public visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2020. The general public is welcome to attend the visitation while following social distancing guidelines. Please stay 6 feet apart and avoid close contact. Anyone is welcome and encouraged to wear personal masks or other personal protective equipment while in attendance.

A private funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2020 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Trevor Dancer officiating. Graveside services will follow at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

A webcast of the funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2020 for friends to view by going to the "photos and videos" tab on this memorial page and scrolling down to the webcasting link
