Johnny Darrell Holt, age 76, of Lebanon, Missouri passed away Friday, January 27, 2023 at his home.

Johnny was born on April 1, 1946 in Albemarle, Stanly County, NC, the son of Renus E. “R.E.” and Lena (Pressley) Holt, both of whom preceded him in death.

Johnny was a1964 graduate of Albemarle Senior High School. After graduating, he worked for a short time in the Dye House at Wiscassett Mills Co., until joining the United States Army in August, 1965. He was honorably discharged in 1969 from active duty, during which time he served in Germany for over two years. Those years were spent with the 7th Army Europe, 6th Battalion, 9th Artillery as an artillery gunner and later a Special Weapons Sergeant with 7th Army. A was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War.

The next 34 years he was employed through sales or sales management with new automobile dealerships. The first 14 years were with Pat Ryan & Associates, Inc. (now AON Corp.), working out of Chicago, IL. He then began a role as a Senior Regional Manager, recruiting and training Business Sales Managers for new car automobile dealers while based out of Richmond, VA. Another 10 years he worked for several different new car retail automobile dealers in Virginia and Maryland, as either General Sales Manager or General Manager. In 1992, while living in Shawnee, Kansas, Johnny started working for (what is today) U.S. Bank, retiring in 2012, as a Senior Sales Executive with the bank’s, Home Mortgage Division.

Johnny loved nothing more than spending time with his family; camping, fishing, sports and traveling. He truly treasured just watching and being with his family while they grew up into adulthood. He was aways there supporting his children in their activities while they were younger. Recently, he cherished any time spent with his grandchildren. No one is more proud of his family, than he.

Another enjoyment was Civil War Re-Enacting. A member of the 28th Infantry Troops, North Carolina, CSA, & the 3rd Missouri Infantry, CSA. He had the opportunity to re-enact many of the great battles, especially the 150th Anniversary re-enactment of the Battle of Gettysburg. His Great Grandfather, John Allen Holt was a member of Co. K, (Stanly Guards) 28th Infantry, North Carolina, CSA, from September, 1861 to his capture in Petersburg, VA in 1865.

Genealogy was another joy for Johnny. He started researching his family in 1994 and was able to verify the Holt family back to 1601 in Germany; coming to America, as part of the Second Germanna, in 1717. Researching many other relatives in Stanly County and North Carolina mainly, including the Pressley’s, Mauldin’s, Huneycutt’s/Honeycutt’s, Whitley’s, Smith’s, and many others. Eleven generations of Holt Family history are in books in the Stanly County History Museum (Genealogy Dept.) in Albemarle. In doing the research, he was able to travel a large number of states from North Carolina to Texas.
