Obituary for Josh Rippstein

Mr. Joshua Levi Rippstein, age 34, of Chicago, Il., passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at St. Louis University Hospital.

Josh was born on November 17, 1986 in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Warren Glen and Pamela Diane (Babcock) Rippstein.

Josh grew up in Jefferson City and attended Jefferson City Public Schools. He worked at Kohls and Five Below as a Sales Associate while still in Jefferson City. Most recently, he worked with a merchandising company in Chicago, Il.

Josh was an avid baseball fan from a very young age and was an impressive pitcher. His greatest accomplishments in baseball were pitching five consecutive “no hitters” and his ability to smack a home run out of the park. Josh enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago White Sox, having watched a game in both stadiums. He enjoyed talking about baseball with his Ma and never passed up an opportunity to be ornery and play tricks on her. Josh was an amazing brother, always filling the role of his sisters’ protector. Whether it be defending them from schoolyard bullies or making sure they chose suitable partners he was ready to jump to the aid of those he loved. Josh could fluently speak German and was proud to assist German speaking customers through his job. He had a giving heart and was very close to his brother and his father who he lovingly called “Pop”. Josh enjoyed every minute spent with his pop, they regularly barbequed and attended baseball games together and often brought his Grandpa Otto along for mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed watching movies with his family. Josh was a practical jokester and had a great sense of humor. From a young age he loved playing tricks on family and was overall a very funny and sarcastic guy. Most of all, Josh cherished the time he spent with his family and they will dearly remember the laughs, the stories and the memories they made with him.

Survivors include: the love of his life, Desma Hoyle of Chicago, Il.; his parents, Warren and Pam Rippstein of Jefferson City, Mo.; one son, Carsen Rippstein Ayres of Columbia, Mo.; and two sisters, Amber “Nicky” Rippstein of Jefferson City, Mo., Victoria “Tori” Stringer (husband, Jason) of Jefferson City, Mo.; and other extended family.
