Obituary for Josie Pauley

Mrs. Josie A. Pauley, age 69, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Capital Region Medical Center.

Josie was born February 10, 1954, in Shaw, Mississippi, the daughter of John and Rosalie (Smith) Bowen. Although she grew up in Mississippi, she often visited Missouri as her mother’s family lived there.

Josie married her first husband, Austin Hardin, and he preceded her in death in 1989. On February 7, 1992, she married Timothy Roger Pauley in Jefferson City, Mo. and he survives.

She spent most of her life as a homemaker, but also worked for several years with janitorial services in the Truman Building for the State of Missouri. She and Tim lived with his parents before their passing, and Josie greatly enjoyed caring for her mother-in-law, Francis.

Josie had a passion for collecting and believed everything had some sort of value. She enjoyed sharing her finds with others as gifts. Josie loved spending time outside, fishing in her younger years or walking in the park with Tim. She enjoyed crossword puzzles to keep her mind sharp, and due to her declining health in recent years, she often spent time watching television, enjoying Patrick Swayze and Steven Segal movies and WWE Wrestling with family.

Josie had a kind and generous heart and always tried to stay positive regardless of life's challenges. She looked forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas with her family and loved cooking fantastic meals in the kitchen. Josie had a soft spot for animals and rescued numerous dogs and cats. She usually had seven dogs and five cats around the house and was always willing to take in more.

Survivors include: her loving husband, Tim Pauley of Jefferson City, Mo.; son, Johnny Norton of Mississippi; stepson, Daniel Pauley (Brennan) of Jefferson City, Mo.; brother, Morris Bowen of McGee, Miss.; two sisters, Beverly Bowen and Mary Pauley (Robert), both of Jefferson City, Mo.; three step-grandchildren, Bruce Hardin, Ariana Pauley, and Trevor Pauley; niece, Melissa Mayer of Jefferson City, Mo.; three nephews, Ray Creason, Jonathan Creason, and Colton Craig, all of Jefferson City, Mo.; niece, Lydia Craig of Jefferson City, Mo.; and cousins, Brenda Merten and Cindy Merten, both of Cottage Grove, Mn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Rozena Holeman; one grandson; her in-laws, William and Emma Francis Pauley; and niece, Lisa Creason.

A private graveside service with inurnment will be held at Longview Cemetery and a celebration of Josie’s life will be announced at a later date.
