Juewl Dillard Hicks, age 67 years, of Eldon, Mo., passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at his home surrounded by family.

Juewl was born on September 12, 1953 in Boonville, Mo., the son of Adolph and Margaret (Holiday) Hicks. He was married on July 29, 1983 in Jefferson City, Mo. to Rita Carver who survives at home.

He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a Private First Class.

Juewl was known as a handyman and could always be found doing odd jobs or working in construction. He also drove a truck for Laidlaw and will always be known for his big heart. The old saying “he never met a stranger” was absolutely true of Juewl; he greeted all with a smile and was willing to do anything he could for others.

He enjoyed being outdoors, whether he was working construction, repairing cars or riding the roads on his motorcycles. He was a gifted marksman with a gun and was an avid pool player.

Juewl had a healthy sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh. From the time he was a boy, he loved playing pranks on friends and family. He looked forward to family BBQ’s where everyone was together sharing meals. To Juewl, there was no greater gift than the love of family.

Survivors include: his wife, Rita Hicks of Eldon, Mo.; four children, Chrissy Scapanski of Florida, Michael Snow (wife Keri) of Jefferson City, Mo., Crystal McKinnon (husband Jacob) of Eldon, Mo. and Darren Hicks of Eldon, Mo.; three sisters, Anna Jones (husband Perry) of Tuscumbia, Mo., Mary Dothage of Eldon, Mo. and Carol Kuhlberg of Versailles, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Garrett and Mackenzie Scapanski, Julia, Trisha and Sadie McKinnan, Jacob Snow and Sophia Winegar; his beloved dog, Little Bit; several nieces and nephews; and many kids that he took under his wing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Elenore Helming; and six brothers, Lawrence Edward Hicks, Franklin Holiday, Adolph Hicks Jr., George Hicks, John Hicks, and Paul David Hicks.

Visitation will be held at Old Time Gospel Church, 211 N. Maple Street, Eldon, Mo. 65026 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 21, 2020 with his memorial service following at 2:00 p.m. Saturday with Brother Charley Christensen officiating. Military honors will follow his memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Freeman Mortuary.

To the entire Hicks family:
Please accept our deepest heartfelt sympathy for Juewl's passing. We went to school together in Jeff City many, many years ago but I still remember his big smile. America thanks him for his brave service during the Vietnam War while serving in the U.S. Army. May he rest in God's loving arms forever. Semper Fidelis.
