Obituary for Julie Phelps

Julia K. “Julie” Phelps, age 58 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Monday, September 16, 2019 at the University Hospital in Columbia, Mo. surrounded by her family.

Julie was born October 3, 1960 in Jefferson City, Mo. the daughter of Henry Randall and Dorthy M. (Krenning) Kallenbach.

A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Julie was a 1979 graduate of Jefferson City High School.

After high school, she started her professional career with the State of Missouri that spanned over 35 years. She started in the Department of Revenue and then began working with the Attorney General’s Office. She retired as an administration assistant with the Department of Insurance in 2015.

Julie was happiest when she was around family and friends. She had an infectious laugh that could put anyone at ease and also a kind, generous spirit that made her naturally want to take care of her family and friends. She cherished her daily phone calls with her mother and their shopping road trips around the state of Missouri. She enjoyed traveling with her fiancé, Tom, to the farm in Knox County and to American Legion events around the country to see her friends she made through the organization.

In her free time, she enjoyed rooting for her favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals, sewing, and looking for the best deal at Thrift Stores or rummage sales.

Survivors include: her mother, Dorthy “Dot” Kallenbach of Jefferson City, Mo.; one brother, Michael L. Kallenbach of Jefferson City, Mo; her niece, Michelle Heislen and her husband Chad; her nephew, Mike W. Kallenbach; one great-nephew, Tristan Heislen; one great-niece, Chloe Heislen; her fiancé, Tom Goodin of Jefferson City, Mo.; and Wally, her beloved and spoiled bulldog.

She was preceded in death by her father, Randy Kallenbach; her paternal grandparents, William H. and Brooxe Kallenbach; and her maternal grandparents, John and Ethel Krenning.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2019.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Legion Comfort Warriors.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
