Obituary for June Landrum

Violet June Landrum, age 85, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

June was born on August 28, 1937 in Fortuna, Missouri to the late Cloyce and Mae (Moore) Paxson. She was joined in marriage to Joe Landrum on November 16, 1957.

June grew up on a Missouri farm. It was there that she learned the importance of family among many other lifelong lessons. She attended Versailles High School, Versailles, Missouri and later Sedalia Business College in Sedalia, Missouri. After 30 years of service, June retired in 1993 from Missouri Department of Secondary Education.

Spending time with her family brought her the greatest joy and she travelled near and far to celebrate birthdays, holidays, watch sporting events, plays and musical performances for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed volunteering at her children’s schools and led both Brownies and Girl Scout troops for numerous years. An incredible cook and baker, June loved hosting family gatherings and was the first to welcome a new neighbor or brighten someone’s day with her wonderful cookies and pies. In later years, she actively volunteered as a mentor for Jefferson City Public School’s literacy and reading programs and was always ready to lend a hand with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

As a long time member of First Baptist Church and Federated Women’s Club (Diana’s Club), she was dedicated to giving her time and support to improve the community and lives of others. Having never met a stranger, she relished spending time with new and old friends alike. June enjoyed time with her neighborhood coffee group, outings with the ladies in Cultured Pearls and exercising with her YMCA friends. Early retirement afforded she and Joe the opportunity to spend time with friends and family and travel throughout the United States and abroad.

June is survived by her best friend and loving husband: Joe of Jefferson City, Missouri; Daughter Cindy Williams and husband Michael of Edmond, Oklahoma, Son-in-law John A. Ruth and wife Jeanne; Grandson John L. Ruth and wife Kasey; all of Jefferson City, Missouri; Grandson Travis Ruth and wife Monica of Palmyra, Missouri; Grandsons Jacob and Bret Williams, Edmond, Oklahoma; Great granddaughters Kinley, Kamdyn, Kylin and June; Great grandsons Easton, Maddox and Thatcher; sister, Wanda Klein of Versailles, Missouri and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Ellery and Annie Landrum, daughter Michelle Ruth, sisters, Zola Bailey and Jean Gunn and brother Bill Paxson.

Friends and family will be received to remember June from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at First Baptist Church, 301 E. Capitol Avenue, Jefferson City, Missouri.

Immediately following, a memorial service will begin at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2023 at First Baptist Church with the Reverend Melissa Hatfield officiating.
