Obituary for Keith S. Henderson
SGM Keith S. Henderson (MOARNG, ret.), age 68, of Jefferson City, MO, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2020 at the University Hospital in Columbia, Mo.
Keith was born November 6, 1951 in St. Louis, MO the son of William W. and Jeanne (Tubbesing) Henderson, where he lived closely to his maternal grandparents. He was married on October 22, 1977 in O’Fallon, MO to Linda K. Shramek.
He was a graduate of Ritenour High School in St. Louis, MO and of Tarkio College, Tarkio, MO with degrees in Business Administration and Criminal Justice.
Keith proudly served in the United States Navy from 1970 until he was honorably discharged in 1974. During his time in the Navy, he served on a nuclear submarine and was a trained scuba diver, stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Keith joined the Missouri State Highway Patrol in 1975. He later moved to Jefferson City in 1980 to serve on the Governor’s Security Detail and finally at Troop F. After leaving the Highway Patrol, he was employed with Burns Security at the Callaway Nuclear Plant.
Keith served in the Missouri Army National Guard, AGR, beginning in 1986. He was a Recruiter, Aviation Ops SP, Administrative SP including the Inspector General’s Office. During his time in the service he received the Navy Good Conduct Medal and the Army Good Conduct Medal. He earned many other awards and medals and attended the Air Assault School. He retired as Sergeant Major in 2004.
Due to all his service to our country, Keith was an extremely proud veteran. He volunteered as a driver for the Disabled American Veterans for many years driving over 49,000 miles lifting other veterans up as they struggled with transportation to doctor’s appointments. Keith was also a proud member of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5. He cherished his time and conversations with other veterans.
Keith was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church and he loved his involvement with their congregation.
Keith’s faith and caring heart carried onto his family in so many ways. He was happiest around them, especially his grandchildren because they had a special place in his heart. One of his favorite places, since he was six years old, was the Lake of the Ozarks. Many of his family’s fondest memories were of weekends spent at the lake tubing, ‘coving out’, paddle boating, riding jet skis and staying at the family cabin. His passion for diving frequently took he and Linda to the warm waters of the Caribbean. He also enjoyed attending all his grandchildren’s events to support them, just as he had done with his children when they were younger. Above all else, he cherished his role as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
If you knew Keith, you were extremely fortunate because he had a way about him to light up a room. He was often telling jokes or an inappropriate story, but he made people comfortable around him. He truly enjoyed other’s company and his fun-loving personality will be missed by so many.
Survivors include: his wife of forty-two years, Linda Henderson; two daughters, Kimberly Jourdon of Jefferson City, MO and Kayla Case and her husband Justin of Jefferson City, MO; two brothers, Wess Henderson and his wife Marsha of Jefferson City, MO and Scott Henderson of Huntsville, AL; four grandchildren, Trevin White, Collin Case, Landin Case, and Brielle Case; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his maternal grandparents, Irvin and Esther Tubbesing.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2020 at Faith Lutheran Church.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2020 at Faith Lutheran Church with the Reverend Eric Gledhill officiating. Graveside services and military honors will follow his service at Riverview Cemetery.
A webcast of the funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday for friends that are not able to attend by going to Faith Lutheran Church’s Facebook page.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Disabled American Veterans, Trinity Lutheran School or Calvary Lutheran High School.
